Cable box keeps rebooting itself

My cable box has suddenly started rebooting itself every few min. When it comes back on it is completely unresponsive. I can't change channels or even turn it off. Even the buttons on the box will not change the channel or turn it off. What gives?

  • Jaymann007 and Paul2399,

On Friday the 29th, we received quite a few reports regarding Scientific Atlanta cable boxes from customers in our San Diego market. The SA receivers seemed to be stuck in a constant reset cycle. We were able to identify the source and resolve the issue late Friday evening. If this is still happening, please unplug the power from the cable box for a full 2 minutes. Once you plug the power back in, the receiver should only go through one reboot cycle. If this does not resolve the issue, please email my team at cox.help@cox.com so we can investigate further.

Are you two in similar areas? Can you post which state?

Also, what kind of cable box?

Have you tried disco/reco the power? Can you turn it on using the button on the box?

It is almost never the hardware IMO. Swapping boxes is something technicians usually do to bandaid fix the issue. Swap out the box if you have to, but atleast try some basic stuff first. No point losing everything on your HD if you don't have to. Specially since there seems to be a known issue in your area.

Whatever was causing this issue was fixed late Friday. When I went to bed Friday night it was still doing it but on Saturday morning there was no issue. Additionally there has been no issue since then.

  • Hi Jaymann007,
