Blinking green Upstream light

Hi folks -

Is it ok that my modem's Upstream light is constantly blinking?  The manual says "The unit is scanning for an upstream channel."

  • Hello USP45,

That does sound rather odd. Are you currently experiencing any issues with the internet service?

Well I'm a new customer so I'm not entirely sure what to expect!

    1. Sometimes on WiFi we'll get disconnected while in the middle of something but I'm still shaking out the router and WiFi extender so willing to play around some more.

    2. Download speeds aren't near max of our plan (according to speedtest) but it's no slouch either (30mbps down on the 50 plan).

I'm not sure if the upstream channel indicator might be related to either of the above...

Looking from here the modem is reporting upstream power levels that are below acceptable.  If you're intermittently seeing the upstream light on the modem flash I'd say it may be necessary for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.

What model modem do you have? I also agree that doesn't sound right.

Thanks for the reply.  Here's the model:

As a follow-up: the light has now stopped blinking (without me needing to take any further action).  And I'm currently getting 41/17Mbps.  Guess I'll just keep an eye on things.

    Thanks all!

And it's back on again haha.

This might be a coincidence but the light came blinking back on after I enabled a Guest network in the router/modem just FYI.  (The reason I think it might be just coincidence is that I've turned the Guest network back off and no change in the blinking light.)

Will try full reset of everything to see if that makes any difference.
