Resetting modem

I keep having intermittent Internet outages the last few days, Today, resetting the modem seems to re-establish the connection. Should I exchange the modem> It is a Cisco DPQ3212

When you lose the internet, do you also lose phone service? If so, what are the signal levels of the modem? Should find them on 192.168.100.1. If not, then what do the lights look like on the router?

I am having the same issue!

Do you also have the same modem? If so, can you answer the same questions I asked him? Or if you want, make a new thread. This is a national forum so it's unlikly that your two problems are related. What area are you reporting problems in?

  • When the service goes out, the phone goes out too. When the service goes out, the online light, telephone light and battery lights go off.

Ok so that rules out alot. Sounds like some kind of sync issue, where the modem is receiving signal but for some reason can't use it to communicate with Cox. Next step would be to look at those signal levels. Either a moderator can with personal info they may have on file, or you can post them here from the 192.168.100.1 webpage page. Will look like this.

    DPQ3212

  • I don't know how to get a snapshot of the webpage like you did, but here is the info when the service is operational. The modem does not show that many resets in its log, but does show quite a few power/signal adjustments on the upstream side. Downstream appears to be fine. Being the seems to be the problem is the cable line going to the Cisco modem coming directly from the wall or is it going through a splitter or surge protector?

  • How many resets does Cox think is acceptable? The modem is connected directly from the wall. Just had to reset again. This is what the numbers look like when it goes down. We would hope for as few as possible, though signal levels to the modem as well issues with a modem can lead to more resets being seen. With the phone modems it is lower then a standalone however as resets would effect both services. Based on the modem's logs not showing resets but they are still happening from your end it questions if the modem is reporting to us correctly, typically that would be something a technician would want to go out to verify, along with the upstream levels not being great.
