mcafee scan hangs on "scanning: rootkit" 98% complete

Hi, am using windows 8 and McAfee suite for Cox and whenever I do either a quick or full scan the computer hangs on

 "scanning: rootkit" 98% complete.

Question:  Is there a solution for this and does this mean I have rootkit problem on my computer.
