Windows 10 and the mail app

I've tried a number of times to add Cox email  to the mail app. After I add it, and try to sync it with Outlook I get an error message that my settings are "out of date"  and asks if I wish to enter the sign in parameters again or dismiss it. I've done everything again and still the program comes back with the "out of date" message. I made sure the IMAP Server Settings are correct; changed the password etc. I finally (after a number of times) just deleted the Cox email account out of the Mail app. I never got any Cox email to appear in my mail app. The Cox email does appear in my Outlook account.

Any ideas.

    When you attempted to add the account to the mobile app did it reference any other error code or message beyond the "settings are out of date"? Also where you using "imap.cox.net" without the quotes for the incoming server?

    No other error code (or message) and I used imap.cox.net.

    Delete any existing accounts for your cox e-mail in windows mail.

    Click add account

    click advanced setup at the bottom

    internet e-mail

    fill out your e-mail settings per https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-email-server-settings.html
