Trying to add new cox email account to my iphone 6s- I have tried to do this a few times and I keep getting a message that states "User Name of Password for imap.cox.net is incorrect" when I try to verify the account. I have retyped in the correct user name and password and still get that message. What do I do to get this corrected so I can view my email on my iphone? This may have been discussed somewhere in the forum but can find if so. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

For the username, make sure just to use the first part, and not the entire email address. Also try going to webmail.cox.net webpage on your iphone and sign in with the same username and password. Work there? Here are the general instructions for setting up a Iphone with Cox email.

Yes I am able to logon to webmail.cox.net on my iphone and I see my test emails that I sent to myself from my work computer. I have been able to set the email account up on my iphone with the help of someone BUT when I try to send or receive mail from my acccount on the iphone it still says "user name or password is incorrect".

So the password for incoming is correct, but not the password for outgoing. To change that, change the password in the prompt shown in the picture of step 3 of these instructions. Host: smtp.cox.net username: giojag (or what ever your Cox username is, no @cox.net) password: same password you used for webmail.cox.net Use SSL: On Authentication: Password Server Port: 587 (If you get a error, try 465) See here for Cox's SMTP server info.

I have had the same issue for months and no one can tell me anything. I have done everything and followed all set up exactly. .my husband can't get it on his phone either. It's frustrating as I travel a lot and I have to go the site each time. when I've asked they tell me the sAme things they are telling you.

Good luck. I hope they figure it out as I might be able to use your solution!

I looked at your account and it appears that your password may have been compromised. I'd suggest resetting your email password to a new password that is different than one you use on other sites or services and see if that works.

What do you exactly mean by my password being compromised? I can log in to the web version without a problem with the password. I also cannot add my cox email to outloolk on my home computer after many tries and my IT manager from work also tried for me with no luck. Any suggestions on that?

Sure, basically a hacker has your password and was successfully able to use your email account using pop/smtp so our mail team reset the password just to those services. This would explain why you're still able to use it in webmail. Note for your own security that your password is known to whomever was accessing your email and will likely attempt to use it elsewhere making it all the more important to use different password for each site or service that you use.

Why was I not notified that your team reset my password??? It would have saved me alot of frustration and time. I have now changed my password and that has allowed me to set up my email account on my iphone and also on outlook on my home computer and appears to be working fine. Thanks for looking into my questions.
