Will a Cox DVR work without DVR service?

I have a Cox Contour DVR AND Cox DVR Service at my primary residence but ONLY Cox Digital Cable at a second. If I disconnect the coax cable from the DVR at home it won't play pre-recorded shows already on the DVR. My question is - if I were to take the DVR to the second home (w/ only regular Cox service) and connect the cable to it - will it play shows already on it? I only want to do this for a few weeks while I'm there NOT on a permanent basis.
