Why annoying message "Every 15 minutes: Press any key on the remote to watch TV."

I'm so tired of this message popping up and then the wife yelling for my attention to come fix the TV.  We don't like the COX remote, it's heavy and bulky.  How do I turn off this alert message?  Is this cox's way of cutting down on data usage from people walking away from their television?  Why does this even happen?  What benefit is it to the consumer?

    You can manage Contour 2 Device Settings to specify when the screen saver activates. Press the CONTOUR button on the Cox remote. Highlight the Settings gear icon, then press OK. Highlight Device Settings, then press OK. Use the down arrow to highlight Screen Saver, then press OK. Screen Saver Starts After is already highlighted, press OK. Use the up and down arrows to highlight 5, 15, or 30 minutes, or 5 hours, then press OK.
