No audio from Denon x4800 when Minibox connected

Hello suddenly my Cable tv sound cannot go through my receiver. Info: LG G4, Denon x4800, Cox Communications Mini Box

I have tried:

  1. Swapping HDMI cables from cable box to receiver
  2. Swapping the coaxial cable
  3. Swapping the cable box (the known good box has no sound on this setup and the "bad" box has sound on the tv the known good box came from) So the box is fine.
  4. I do get sound if i plug the box straight into the tv via hdmi and send it back over ARC or use the tv speakers. So it's not the cable tv connection.
  5. I swapped other devices into the same HDMI slot and they work
  6. swapping the cable box to other HDMI slots still results in no sound
  7. input is correct I see video
  8. cable box audio is not SAP
  9. it's not muted

I cannot for the life of me figure out what setting i changed that would've caused this. For whatever reason, there is no sound when the cable box is connected through my receiver. I did upgrade the firmware a few days ago. I saved my settings and did a factory reset and restored the settings. Still nothing. Any troubleshooting suggestions would be very welcome.

    I have a similar Denon receiver.  The digital inputs can be assigned - reassigned to different inputs.  Go in to the setup on your receiver and make sure that cbl\sat is configured to use the appropriate hdmi input, it's possible it could be flipped to a different input.  The menu would look something like this...

    The fact that it works connected direct to the TV me makes me think it's not a Cox issue. When did the problem start and what changed around then? Have you tried Denon support or their forum? Also, how do you have the box/TV/Denon connected to each other and configured exactly?

      I changed my tv. I am actually not sure when this issue actually started.  Also I think t+there was a denon firmware update. I'll try denons support next.  I have no device that sends sound over HDMI that the denon didn't detect and make sound. 

      The cable box HDMI goes to the denon HDMI port 1 cbl/sat. The denon then goes to my tv HDMI port 2 that supports arc/earc.

        What model TV is it?  You may need to experiment with audio options in your TV settings.
