I currently have ESPN on watchtv.cox.com on the left side of my screen while I'm typing this on the right side. If you have a computer with a wide enough monitor, you might try sizing a TV window on one side and a group chat window on the other. It's not a perfect solution, but it might allow you to avoid the cable TV live delay. Or maybe you could use your phone for group chat and watch football full screen on your computer.
Edit - next day
Currently, the CBS game on cable TV is 6 seconds behind watch.tv.com. The Fox game on cable TV is 11 seconds ahead of the same game on watch.tv.com. This shows that live delay will vary, depending on the feed.
The live delay with streaming is sometimes longer than with cable TV.
