I keep my recording ah 10% or less. So no, my recorder was and is not full. but that wouldn't explain why ALL of them get erased.
Please press the Contour button on the Cox remote and highlight Saved, then press OK. Highlight Recordings. Scroll down to Recently Deleted. Are your shows in this folder?

Ok, when I say everything is gone I mean everything. There is no Deleted recordings directory either. Just a message in huge font stating that there is nothing to display.
I went so far as to change the time that the box auto reboots itself at night to a time after I get up. The next morning, my recording were still there (you see the box did not reboot yet) I then unplugged it and went to work. (I had set the time for the auto reboot to take place between 6 and 8 am. - I get up for work at 4am). when I got home at 1300 (1PM) I plugged in the box and let it boot up - My recordings were GONE!

On a side note, in the morning when I checked on the recordings on the box, I also checked the Contour app on my phone - the recordings were showing up there as well. When I got home I again checked my phone app the see the recording, they at that point were still there. After the boot up of the box, The recording on the box and, AND the contour app on my phone.. no recordings anywhere.

As far as I know, a Cox update can’t affect a cable box that's unplugged. So, if recorded programs are stored locally on your DVR hard drive and since you had recordings when the box was unplugged, then the problem has to be in the boot process, whether it’s done manually or by the nightly auto-boot. For practical purposes, your hard drive recordings are about as permanent as data in RAM if you lose everything when the DVR is re-booted. My suggestion would be to swap out the box. It’s not like you’re going to lose any recordings by replacing it.
Before you do that, you could try contacting Cox and see if they can push out an update that might fix the boot problem. But, you really have nothing to gain from doing that other than saving yourself a trip to a Cox store.

Do you suspect the DVR deletes your recordings after its whenever-scheduled auto-reboot? Why does it have to reboot?
How long have you had this DVR? If it has to auto-reboot, I'm sure your recordings weren't deleted in the past, right? This just started happening?

Correct this just started happening last Tuesday. I have had this box for years. I have not wanted to replace it because of the close to 70 programs that are set to record at different time during the week and show seasons. BUT, I took the time to write down all the programs with channel day of week and time (and of course name). Had the box swapped out yesterday and set a few recordings for an over night test. got up this morning and there they were! not deleted.
