Thanks, but that doesn’t answer my initial question. I was previously able to START a recording LATE or END it EARLY, but now I can’t. Why was this taken away? Can that option come back?

According to the link KevinM2 provided, you should be able to start a recording late or end it early.
- Use the up and down arrows to choose 1 or 2 minutes early, then press OK.
- Use the up and down arrows to choose 1, 5, or 30 minutes late, then press OK.
- For live events, the options are 30, 60, or 90 minutes late. Recordings of some live sports events will be extended automatically for overtime or extra innings.
Or, you could replace the Contour 2 with a Contour receiver that can be set to start on time, 1-5,10,15, 30 minutes late or 1-5, 10, 15, 30 minutes early as well as end on time, 1-5,10,15, 30, 60, 120, 180 minutes late or 1-5, 10, 15, 30 minutes early.

Correct, but the 1 or 2 min early is just to start a recording, not to end it. And same with the 1, 5, or 30 min - that’s to end it later not end it earlier.
I used to be able to start a recording 1 or 2 or 5 min late (so the program had started) and end a recording 1 or 2 or 5 min early (so the program wouldn’t quite be finished yet). This allowed for more shows that were on different channels, but whose recording times in the system overlapped, to be able to be recorded. From the replies, I’m guessing this is no longer an option with the ‘upgraded’ Contour 2 box.

Edited: It's my understanding that Contour 2 no longer provides a "Set Manual Recordings" option. But, Cox user keddy posted workaround instructions that would allow you to set a Contour 2 manual recording for the channel you want to record from 8:01 to 9:00.
Contour 2 is marketed by Cox as an "upgrade" and it does have some interesting features. But for recording and watching programs, I still prefer the original record 6 Contour receiver. Among its features that I prefer are the variety of start and end times I listed in my previous post. Cox has said they will allow existing customers to swap a Contour 2 receiver for a Contour. A customer just can't have a mix of the two. It must be one or the other.
- KevinM25 years agoFormer ModeratorFor our Contour 2 platform, it is possible to start a recording early and you can also extend the end time. For live events, the options are 30, 60, or 90 minutes late. Recordings of some live sports events will be extended automatically for overtime or extra innings. Is this what you're referring to? If not, can you please be more specific? I will gladly submit feedback to our department that handles Contour 2 guide and feature enhancements. -Kevin M. Cox Support Forum Moderator

What I was able to do previously was this (for 2 recordings at a time):
Program 1 - scheduled from 7-8:01
Program 2 - scheduled from 7-8
Program 3 - scheduled from 8-9
Program 4 - scheduled from 8-9:01 —- wouldn’t record because of the 1 min overlap for programs 1, 3, 4, but I could manually change Program 4 to be scheduled from 8:01-9:01.
This way, I got all 4 shows instead of just 3. Does that help?- ekhawaii5 years agoContributor
Good description Ferfer.....being able to Start Later and end/or End Earlier in a time slot would allow your recording of Prog4. I didn't realize that the older DVR boxes had this feature.
As I said in my 2 day ago post, I happen to have 2 separate Contour DVR,s and I've been noticing that the conflict time shows end up getting recorded on the 2nd DVR. Now I still have issues with a 2DVR setup, like not being able to control which DVR receives the record (I have one where the kids record, and one I use in the Family rm). COX removed the feature of being able to isolate each DVR from each other (feature was there in Contour1 documentation), so now, I cannot control which machine record which show. I want to control which DVR has the kids stuff and mine.
Seems like the only thing you can do is to switch to the 6 record DVR Countour2. For me, this may work, like one 6 record and the other 2 record machine. But since I cannot force the recordings to specific devices, it would be a waste of $. Sad because Contour1 had an option to isolate each machine in the Settings.

CurtB, I do not see "set manual recording" under the Contour2 Guides for recording. It just has the Start earlier fixed times, or End later fixed times. I guess COX 2box did not see why someone like Ferfer exists with his request. I thoroughly see his dilemma with conflicting end/start times on shows on different channel.
The 2box has just a few differences than the 1box, but boy, these differences can be a killer. Since I don't and never had a 1box, I cannot comment to differences, but looking at some of the help features online between the 2 types, I say UGH!. The worst for me is not being able to block a 2nd DVR from seeing the other DVR (I have 2 machines). I believe I read in the Contour1 help, that there was a settings feature that allowed, although not in the Contour2.
For Ferfer....LOL, like I said earlier....a 6 record box at a higher price may be the only option.

ekhawaai, I did some research since my last post and discovered that "Set Manual Recording" is no longer an available option with Contour 2. But, I just edited my previous post to include a link to another user's post that described workaround instructions to set a Contour 2 manual recording. When it's convenient, check that out and let us know if it works.

ekhawaii, a Record 6 DVR is $7.00 per month more than a Record 2 DVR. If you're a heavy TV watcher, it's worth it to avoid a lot of scheduling headaches.

CurtB...yes a 6record DVR could help but I don't want to replace my 2 DVR's with 6record types. The big issue for me, I cannot control which DVR actually records what programs. You would think that if you record a show thru a TV that is connected to a specific DVR, that all records would go there...FALSE! Because of the "whole house concept" COX talks about 1 Master DVR and multiple client boxes to allow watching one DVR thru multiple TV's....I have 2 Master DVRs, but CANNOT isolate each box....this feature was available on Contour1 documentation. NO, I do not want to switch to the Contour1.
As to your link and procedure to manual record....When I go to the guide, and find a listing of a program, then either press OK....then slide to Record (2nd entry on the bottom row) a box appears with "Just this episode" or "All episodes". Pressing the "Just.." produces a "Recording set." There is NO feature here to set start/stop incremental times. Pressing the Red Record button also does the same. There is No way to control the times on regular programs... The link you sent mentions "Down arrow to enter Start Time, then Duratin, then Date" I do not see anything close to this.
However, for Sports Recording, the Record options change to record "just this game" with start/stop increments. So, for Ferfer original posting, overlapping programs Non-Sports" is a Problem. No option other than "record this episode" or All, like a series.
On your Contour1, does the Record show options of start/stop times for regular shows?
