Can the wireless contour box work when your Panoramic router is in bridge mode?

I got a new contour wireless box because I was told it would work, but it does not work when I put the Panoramic router in bridge mode. I can watch recorded shows and see the Guide, but live tv does ...

cox must use special firmware to protect the wireless video streams that’s why you need the panoramic gateway

Protection (DRM) is what I'm thinking as well.  Firmware probably instructs handshake, addressing, encryption, yada-yada...
