Spam doesn't stay in spam folder

When I mark an e-mail as spam and send it to the spam folder, it almost always immediately pops up again in my in box. After 2 or 3 attempts, it is finally gone from my in box. Can you explain? I'm nowhere near my e-mail capacity.
