Forum Discussion
Well I just had to sign in 46min ago to make my previous post helping the person with the scam popup and I had to sign in again to write this post, so that is less then you are staying logged in. Have you been able to find a cookie that matches the 1-hour expiration time? Also, shouldn't the cookie only expire after inactivity? Why is it expiring in the middle of typing something?
I wonder if I can work around the issue with a plugin. Something like this. Just have to find something for a browser other than Chrome, since I am trying to de-google my life right now.
::edit:: The time stamp may make it look like it was closer to your time, but that is because it took me a while to type the post.
A cookie isn't expiring while you're typing. You can start a post, delete this site's cookies and continue typing. It won't matter. The forums.cox.com cookie is immediately re-created.

Then what IS happening? I will be in the middle of typing and the page will suddenly reload and direct me to the forum login page. I wish I could ask someone at Cox but I know they don't have the knowledge or training to answer the question.
It would be speculation to guess. We know contents of a post-in-progress are stored somewhere when a time-out occurs because it's restored after signing in again. The sign in time could also be stored. A timer based on that stored time could be running or a manual event, such as keypress, could trigger a time check. I'd be interested to know too, but I doubt anyone at Cox would know and they wouldn't tell you anyway.
When a forum time-out occurs for me, I'm not directed to the sign in page. This page redisplays without my in-progress post and my name in the upper right is changed to "Sign in". I just click on that, and the discussion I was in is redisplayed. I navigate to the post to which I was replying and click Reply. Previous text I've written is restored and I can continue with the post.
I'm going to create a new, test post and let it time-out. Back in a while.
It occurred to me that editing an existing post and creating a new one that hasn't been published yet could be processed differently. It timed out before I could create a new test post, but I just clicked "Sign in" and it redisplayed this discussion that I had open. I'll create a new post and let it time out without publishing. Later...
