MB modems are not Motorola Modems, they are ZOOM modems. Zoom Telephonics leased/purchased the name motorola and labeled THEIR equipment with the name Motorola, which I find underhanded. One of the issues that ZOOM has, is a hotter signal, 44dbi or less, are not processed well by that modem, and it will constantly resync itself. Several people currently AND previously have had issues with the Zoom Modem resyncing itself with hotter levels.
You really hate Zoom huh? Besides the issue you mentioned, what is the reason? Is Zoom the "value" brand?

I am familiar with their brand all the way back to their smoked gray plastic 2400 baud modem. They are the Value VALUE brand. I wouldn't give their product to my worst enemy, (They are already mad enough with me). If you look through various forums, a number of people with the (MB Motorola) product, have issues with it constantly resyncing every 10 - 15 minutes, when the signal levels are a bit hotter than spec. While the Surfboard handles something like that with ease, the zoom is incapable, hence we currently have 2 people currently active in the forums, BOTH with the "Motorola" Modems, with the exact same issue. (Imagine that). I do not like their product, and feel that by purchasing the NAME Motorola and slapping it on their equipment to dupe people in purchasing a product based on name recognition, is underhanded at best and is fraudulent at worst.

"Motorola is a leading brand of cable modems at retail, and we're honored and thrilled to be licensing this powerful brand," said Frank Manning, Zoom's President and CEO. "This license has the potential to grow Zoom's sales dramatically."
Basically ARRIS maintains the Motorola equipment hardware/software, ZOOM uses it's OWN hardware/software with the motorola name on it. 'Underhanded', since it lends itself to duping people who is purchasing something based on name recognition.
Plus the several people here. And all the other threads that deal with the MB86** series and more.

That point I certainly agree on. It's up with putting the wireless speeds front and center on the box of routers when those are just hypothetical speeds and are rarely seen in the field.
