Not Receiving DOCSIS 3.1

I would like to start by saying that I have tried with my utmost knowledge/ability to figure this out before coming to a discussion board.

I got rid of the Cox Panoramic Gateway, and bought 3rd party equipment capable of DOCSIS 3.

-Arris Surfboard SB8200

-AX1800 Router

I have the 1Gig plan, and my hardware supports DOCSIS 3.1.

To add to this, I cannot access my modem's settings to check signal levels or see if i could change those settings myself. Cox did not want to help when I called so any support would be appreciated.

Welcome to our Community Forums! Thank you for your post. I'm sure our active member here will jump in to provide assistance soon. In the meantime, I tried to locate your account using your forums credentials, but was unsuccessful, so I have been unable to review your equipment's connection to the Cox network. When you say you are not receiving DOCSOS 3.1, what do you mean? Are you having speed issues? Was the trouble present prior to switching to the SB8200?  As for accessing the modem's web manager, you can find instructions for access in the user guide located at https://www.cox.com/content/dam/cox/residential/support/internet/print_media/Arris_SB8200_user_guide.pdf.

Hello Colleen, the Modem has LED indicators showing the current status. There is a LED that signifies either DOCSIS 3.0 or 3.1. When the LED is green, the current connection is 3.0, and when the LED is Blue, the current connection is 3.1.

      User Guide explaining LED status.

Although my user ID and "credentials" are not able to be found, I am associated with a user who has no idea what I want to achieve haha. I can provide those details for you if need be.

Per the instructions of the SB8200 user guide, typing in 192.168.100.1 does not take me to any status screen. I believe this was due to activating the modem with Cox.

Basically, my equipment is not being used to it's fullest potential, when it absolutely should be.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm not sure why you are unable to access the web manager. I'm not aware that we are blocking this access, but to be honest, our support for retail equipment is limited. I'm happy to check things from our end., but we would never ask you to share any account information publicly. Please email cox.help@cox.com with your full name, complete street address, details of your concern and a link to this thread. please also include results of a speed test from www.speedtest.net.

The 8200 can be accessed through your browser using the LAN IP address 192.168.100.1. Default user name is "admin" and password is either "password" or the last eight digits of the 8200's serial number. You can them view operational status and network config.

Also try rebooting and/or resetting the 8200. If neither work then yep, Cox has locked you out as they tend to do with customer supplied equipment. Sucks!

  • UPDATE:

Contacted ISP and Manufacturer. Was able to reach Status screen. Still no answer on receiving DOCSIS 3.1 however.

    Got these results:

      Hi caseypuryear,

Upon reviewing your screen shots, it appears all of the channels are connecting as they should.  I see that you mentioned you are not getting Docsis 3.1 but it appears you are.  Please describe what you mean in more detail if you would.

Yes, so I believe it is a Modem issue, and the manufacturer has stated that it is transmitting DOCSIS 3.1, however, the LEDs on the front of the modem are not reflecting that.

Just wondering, based off those numbers, that I could verify what the manufacturer is telling me.
