Need to upgrade Router with Modem?

I was recently provided with an upgraded Modem from Cox free of charge. Devices plugged directly into my router work, however, there is no wifi. Does this mean I need to upgrade my router? Or does that not make sense?

    What is the brand and model of the modem and also the router?

    The modem is by Arris and the router by Netgear...The Netgear router is around 6 years old. The Modem we just received in the mail from Cox...brand new

    When changing what is connected directly to the modem please make sure to power cycle the modem so it will recognize a new device. We don't offer support for third-party routers, but with the model number (which should be on the router's label) it's possible to look up the router's manual to see what options it has. Some have a button to turn WiFi off and on.
