Motorola MB8611 blinking DS light

Activated this new modem about 3 weeks ago. While it works fine, every few days the blue DS light will start blinking. I can still access the internet but the light will continue to blink until I turn off the modem, wait a minute or so, and then turn it back on. Everything is fine after that. However, this has been happening every few days since getting this modem.

Do I have a faulty modem? Should I exchange it while I still can? Or is this an issue that needs to be straightened out with Cox?

    I know how important it is for you to have reliable internet service. Are there any splitters or amplifiers that are connected to the coaxial that is screwed into the back of your modem?
