modem upgrade letter- a total scam!

I got a COX branded letter today, saying "A modem upgrade on us" and that for no charge to me,  could get a "faster" modem.

cox.com/upgrademymodem

I already have a DOCSIS 3.1 modem!

Then when you go to the link provided...

"Gigablast uses the latest technology, DOCSIS 3.1, to give you the absolute fastest speeds. An additional WiFi Router is required to enable wireless connectivity.

$179.99"

total scam, COX - you have to stop these *** business practice! Gigabalst isn't even offered in my area!

The FTC is going to come down on you one of these days :-)

  • Hi justaguy,

We can investigate this. Is your D3.1 Modem that's provisioned listed among the website of Cox certified Cable Modems here? https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-certified-cable-modems.html

If your modem is among that list and you're still getting the letter, please email us at cox.help@cox.com with the letter you've received.

FWIW I received a completely FREE DOCSIS 3 modem awhile back to replace my old DOCSIS 2 modem. It didn't cost me a cent.
