Issues with DOCSIS 3.1 Motorola MG8702 but not with my old DOCSIS 3.0 Netgear Nighthawk C7000-100NAS

Just curious if anyone has an explanation for these issues I was having with my Motorola I "upgraded" to. I was running the Netgear and never had any issues whatsoever and I upgraded for no reason really in particular other than I though QoS would help online gaming which I never did notice a single difference. So ever since I started using the Motorola I would get constant Dynamic range window violations, download speeds would slow to around 30-80Mbps at least once a week when Im on a 500Mbps plan and I would have to reboot the modem every time to get normal speeds again, tons of corrected and uncorrected errors, many of the power levels on the downstream were barely within range depending on who you ask (-8,-9 and some -12) and upstream power levels were almost always @ 50 dBmv or 51. I hook up my old Netgear and get it activated by COX and there is zero issues in the event log, no uncorrected errors and my power levels are much better being from -2 to -7 at the most, upstream is now 48.5 across the board. Did I get a lemon Motorola or what?

I didn't have your particular makes and models but as far as D3.1 vs. D3.0, yes, I've also had fewer problems with a D3.0.  It's like the D3.0 has been more stable and without issues.

Cox freely loaned me the Cisco DPQ3212 because I subscribe to Cox Voice and it's a combo Internet-telephone modem.  The Internet portion of the combo modem had lots of issues, like yours, and eventually just died a few months later.

Instead of immediately replacing it, I installed my previous D3.0 (Surfboard SB6182) and it worked like a charm.  In fact, I'm still using it 2 years later because it's been so reliable.

I don't know why.  Perhaps a D3.0 is more tolerant of crappy service.

I was under the impression that 3.1 would be more tolerant of crappy service but apparently I was wrong...oh well.

I've read the D3.1 is more efficient...and it probably is...but I'll take reliability over efficiency.  As of now, my D3.0 ain't broke.

    Hi Wolan,

I can certainly understand your concern with the speeds. We would be happy to look at the account with you to see if we can find what is causing the issue. To do that, we ask that you email us with your service address and a link to this forum thread.

Well I'm not having issues after I switched back to my old Netgear DOCSIS 3.0 Modem....wondering why I had issues with the newer 3.1 modem..
