Did Cox call customers saying Cox will send new modems to replace the old one?

I got a call from a guy saying he is a Cox Representative and that Cox was going to send me a new modem to replace the old out dated modem. I haven't received any modem and now wonder if this was a scammer calling to gain information or to get me to say certain words over the phone to use in order to set me up for a scam. So did Cox call or not?

Is your modem outdated?  Have you had connectivity problems?  What is the make/model of your modem?  Did you request a new Internet plan?  Unless you currently have a DOCSIS 1.0, I don't know why they'd call you.  It's odd they'd offer to mail it to you as opposed to scheduling an appointment to install it.  Cox loves service calls ($$).

If you're suspicious, change your Cox account passwords and any other online credentials you may have provided.  Then call Cox to confirm if they called.  If not, they could either flag your account as vulnerable or to monitor it for suspicious activity.

What information did you give them...credit card, bank routing number, SSN, etc?

Hi Ratdog52, we'd like the opportunity to investigate your account further, to find out if this was legitimate or not. Can you please include a link to this forum thread and email us at cox.help@cox.com? Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. -Kevin
