Consumer Reports 2022 Ratings

There is a recent...and now locked...post about the Consumer Reports' rating of the telecom providers.  However, to be fare, a lot of what the OP had written is inaccurate or misleading.

First, Consumer Reports conducts a survey of providers in 4 general categories:
• Bundled Services (Internet, TV & Phone)
• Internet-Only Service
• TV-Only Service
• Telephone-Only Service

Based on the respondents' scores to each question, Consumer Reports then rates the providers as follows:
• Completely Satisfied
• Very Satisfied
• Somewhat Satisfied
• Somewhat Dissatisfied
• Completely Dissatisfied

"No surprise that COX is in the WORST category no matter whether you look at the 'Phne TV Internet Bundles', 'Internet Providers', 'TV Services' categories."

This statement is false.  Cox only rated "worst" in 2 of the 4 categories:  Bundled Services (Internet, TV & Phone) and TV-Only Service.  However, these categories include cable-TV, and nobody feels cable-TV is a value.  Moreover, to be fair to Cox, none of the 16 providers fared well with Cable-TV service:

Bundled Services (Internet, TV & Phone)
1. Completely Satisfied:  0 of 16 (0%)
2. Very Satisfied:  0 of 16 (0%)
3. Somewhat Satisfied:  0 of 16 (0%)
4. Somewhat Dissatisfied:  6 of 16 (38%)
5. Completely Dissatisfied:  10 of 16 (63%)

TV-Only Service
1. Completely Satisfied:  0 of 15 (0%)
2. Very Satisfied:  0 of 15 (0%)
3. Somewhat Satisfied:  1 of 15 (7%)
4. Somewhat Dissatisfied:  5 of 15 (33%)
5. Completely Dissatisfied:  9 of 15 (60%)

"In the 'Value' category COX is always the lowest score, and in 'Customer Service', the second lowest score possible."

This statement is true.  Cox did score "lowest" for Value in the 4 general categories.  However, the OP failed to mention respondents rated 82% of the scores for Value as lowest.

Of the 32 providers in the 4 general categories, there are a total of 72 scores for Value.  For example, MagicJack and Ooma wouldn't have a score for Value with Cable-TV service.

1 = Lowest and 5 = Highest (Value)

• Rated as 1:  59 of 72 (82%)
• Rated as 2:  5 of 72 (7%)
• Rated as 3:  2 of 72 (3%)
• Rated as 4:  1 of 72 (1%)
• Rated as 5:  4 of 72 (6%)

As for Customer Service...
• Rated as 1:  26 of 72 (36%)
• Rated as 2:  26 of 72 (36%)
• Rated as 3:  11 of 72 (15%)
• Rated as 4:  2 of 72 (3%)
• Rated as 5:  1 of 72 (1%)

Bottom line:  Of the scores for the 17 attributes in the survey, Cox ranked 5th of the 15 telecoms providing at least 2 of the general categories.

1.  Verizon
2.  TDS
3.  Charter (Spectrum)
4.  WOW!
5.  Cox
6.  RCN
7.  Consolidated Communications
8.  Kinetic by Windstream
9.  AT&T
10. xfinity (Comcast)
11. Lumen (CenturyLink)
12. Xtream (Mediacom)
13. Optimum
14. Frontier
15. SuddenLink

Since the OP was referring to Reliability and Speed, I attached the ratings for the category of Internet-Only Service.  If anyone wants another category, just ask.

That thread had a lot of "political flair" in it and probably should have been locked. Your thread is much more helpful. Looks like Google Fiber is the winner.

I should have included this in the document, but the dashes under Tech Supt and Cust Serv mean insufficient data to score.

So...if Sonic's subscribers aren't familiar with or have never contacted Sonic's Tech Supt or Cust Serv...this may be revealing something.
