Maybe Yahoo changed their DNS around. jimapinternal.imap.mail.g03.yahoodns.net is a weird redirect but then again I have never pinged that server before. I think there is a option under Advanced settings on the app. See here. Not sure if it works because as per a moderator, you can't set custom DNS.
To access the advanced settings, tap on the Connect tab, then See Network. From the My Network screen, tap Advanced Settings. The following options display.
- Port Forwarding - Enable online gaming, VoIP, and peer-to-peer applications to connect directly to a device on your home network.
- LAN & WAN - Customize your local area network (LAN) settings and view your wide area network (WAN) IP address.
- DNS Server - View the domain name system (DNS) configuration for your home network.
- DMZ - Configure a demilitarized zone for your home network.
.
If Yahoo changed their DNS and Cox dns servers were not updated, then I would not have been able to ping or tracert their server, since I am on Cox as well. Most likely, Yahoo is blocking their IP address, because a previous person having that either attempted to use yahoo to send spam, or was infected with something that may have attempted to attack yahoo's mail server.
I am going with, Yahoo is blocking their IP address based on current information. Especially since the final destination was the same for both you and I.

I can still use the Yahoo websites and webmail without any problem.
Unless Yahoo is blocking OP at the specific port. OP would also have had to start spamming just before new modem.

When they got the new modem, they received a DIFFERENT routable IP address. It would have changed, when a device with a different MAC ID connected for access. At that point, they received an ip address, that MAY have been blocked from the Yahoo IMAP server due to issue the previous user of that IP address caused. Since yahoo doesn't know a different person has that IP address, it would remain blocked. Best bet at this point would be for the OP to contact YAHOO with their wan IP and request is to be unblocked.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and ideas. The WAN IP of this modem has the same first two octets as the previous modem, and the last two octets is different. I'm not aware of my Yahoo account being used for spamming, and it was working in my client programs until the day the old modem died.
I was mistaken earlier, remembering off the top of my head while at work. The ping error is actually Destination Port Unreachable. This is my output from traceroute and ping in a Linux terminal. traceroute stops after only two hops.
zzzzz@zzzzz$ traceroute imap.mail.yahoo.com
traceroute to imap.mail.yahoo.com (76.13.33.33), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1 192.168.xxx.yyy (192.168.xxx.yyy) 6.751 ms 6.746 ms 6.808 ms
2 192.168.xxx.yyy (192.168.xxx.yyy) 6.787 ms 6.856 ms 6.974 ms
zzzzz@zzzzz$ ping imap.mail.yahoo.com
PING jimapinternal.imap.mail.g03.yahoodns.net (67.195.176.151) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.xxx.yyy (192.168.xxx.yyy) icmp_seq=1 Destination Port Unreachable
From 192.168.xxx.yyy (192.168.xxx.yyy) icmp_seq=2 Destination Port Unreachable"I am going with, Yahoo is blocking their IP address based on current information."
Darkatt, I am also leaning toward the same conclusion. I will try to get in touch with Yahoo tomorrow.
"If you get a different IP try changing to google DNS (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare(1.1.1.1)."
WiderMouthOpen, it sounds like a long shot but I can try it in the morning before leaving for work.

Don't bother, you are getting the same IP/domain. Could be a block but I am not sure yet. I will do more research in the morning.

I was wondering if you got word back from Yahoo about the possible block?
