Asking for recommendation of alternate email provider

Since Cox is getting out of supplying email addresses with their acct, what is advised for a good alternative? Not gmail because I don't want mail to my phone. Hopefully one with good spam filtering,...

gmail, yahoo, samsung. gmail blocks the best for me, without setting any filters.

my phone updates all the above manually, not on a schedule.
