DOCSIS Network Access Enabled Denied

North Phoenix here, with some history first.

Service at this residence for over two years, same setup, no changes, with exception of modem upgrade six months ago.

  • Home run from the "modem" the demarcation on the side of the house.
  • No splices, splitters, amplifiers between demarcation and modem.
  • There is a router on the LAN side of the modem, however it should not affect the DOCIS network.

No Internet this morning.

  • Error on modem of "DOCSIS Network Access Enabled Denied"
  • Multiple resets of modem, no change in "error"
  • Only a single channel up and down locked.

Hello, I recommend temporarily bypassing the router and then check to see if you are able to access the internet. -Allan, Cox Support Forums Moderator.

Really? with DOCIS access denied, and only a single channel each direction locked?   👌🏼

I will also mention the router is a pfSense box, so it is just a freeBSD computer on specialized hardware, I have shell access and not sure what the thoughts of putting a desktop OS are directly to the "modem."

Do you still have your previous modem from 6 months ago?  If so, install it for a test.

Yes, though unfortunately Cox no longer supports it.

From 6 months ago?  What's its make/model?

The old "modem" was taken offline six months ago, but is not six months old. I will take a look in a bit, but Cox send emails and snail letters to upgrade or they'd send a new modem, change my plan and charge me for the modem.

That's why I brought my own, and I do not want to extend my contract as I am moving out of service area within a year.

i understand your previous modem wouldn't be 6 months old; however, if Cox supported it 6 months ago, Cox would still support it.  Heck...Cox would probably still support a D2.

If you have a spare on-hand...(spare a square?)...I only want to play swaptronics to test your current modem because 31 dBmV seems kinda low.

Gotcha, 👍🏼 I also have an amplifier i had used at an old house if I need to, it's tunable upstream and downstream. Just odd it started overnight.

Error on modem of "DOCSIS Network Access Enabled Denied"

This indicates that the modem isn't properly provisioned on the network. It means just what it says: the DOCSIS network isn't allowing the modem to access the network. Very odd that you received a suggestion to bypass the router, as this has nothing at all to do with the router. Glad to hear they fixed it on their end.
