Can't access HBOgo or MAXgo from my browser

It's worked for years but within the last few days I can no longer access either hbogo or maxgo from a web browser.

I go to either the HBO or Cinemax site, and click on login.

I select Cox as my provider, and I'm taken to the Cox login screen.

I click on the login and I'm taken back to either HBO or Cinemax as always, but now I get the message:

"We’re having trouble verifying your access to HBO GO with your TV provider"

"It appears that your Cox subscription does not include HBO"

The response is the same for both HBO and Cinemax, so it's an issue with the Cox authentication.

I've tried it with two different PC's, and three different browsers, so it's not a browser issue, it's the same equipment, browsers, and Cox login I've been using for years.

It's always worked before but obviously something has changed in the last week, anyone else have this problem?

Have you recently changed your TV package in any way?

Nope, same TV package for the last 8 years or more. Nothing has changed.

Have you tried using the Contour website as an alternative until you get the solution you need?

I hadn't tried Contour, so I gave it a try, but it doesn't work either.

I get the "Contour" initial screen, then it changes to the Cox login screen. I click the login and it just returns and loops back to the Cox login screen every time. So I can't even log in for TV, much less HBO or Cinemax.

At first the Contour screen wouldn't load, I had to enable Flash in the browser (I've tried it with two different browsers and PC's now ), so Flash is working now, and I get the Contour screen no problem.

My Cox login is obviously correct, I can log into this forum and my Cox account no problem, but I can't login with Contour, HBO, or Cinemax using my Cox account.

Cox credentials used to access Contour are different from the ones used to access this forum and your Cox account.  Your HBO and Cinemax credentials are probably different too and they appear to have been corrupted.

When you select Live TV on the Contour screen, do you see the TV listings grid?   If not, I had a similar problem and fixed it for Chrome.  See this thread.  This only clears selected data and is the focused version of Cox telling you to take the shotgun approach when they recommend  clearing cookies and cached data.

If you performed the process in the above link to clear Contour site data and verified you can now see the TV listings grid, try accessing hbogo or maxgo.  If they still don't work or if you didn't have to clear site data for Contour, perform the process in the link to clear site data for hbogo or maxgo, using the appropriate signin website.  You may have to clear site data for both.  This should solve your issue.  You could probably take the equivalent steps for other browsers.  Please post back and let us know your results.

I followed your instructions in the link, cleared all the cookies and data then tried it again.

It does get farther now, after entering my login info on the sign in page the Contour page comes back up and it briefly says "Connecting".

Then it changes to a black loading screen with the spinning circle, but after about 10 seconds it goes back to the sign in page again.

I tried HBO just to see and no change there.

I appreciate your help, but I don't want to waste any more of your time. I'll give Cox a call Monday morning and see if they can find out what's wrong. I watch something on HBO or Cinemax many nights a week, and never had any problem until a few days ago when it suddenly started giving me the error.

Thanks again, I appreciate your efforts in helping me out.

@vbguy67, can you please include a link to this forum thread and reach out to us on Twitter at @CoxHelp, Facebook, or at cox.help@cox.com? I'd like to investigate this further. -Kevin M. Cox Support Forum Moderator

Thanks for your response Kevin, but I don't have/use Facebook or Twitter. I'm 70 years old and not a social media person. When I go to the Cox Help page I don't see any way to reach tech support online,  that's why I was going to wait till Monday to call them.

On the "Great Ways To Get In Touch" section at the top of the Help page, the only applicable link is to these forums. So that's what I used in my quest for assistance.

Scrolling down to the "If You Need More Help" heading, the "Support Section" just gives me a phone number and office hours, no way to contact support online.  The "Homelife and Tech Support" section is the same, just a phone number and office hours. There is no online support that I can find, other than these forums. I guess Cox mistakenly assumes that everyone is into social media and only provides that as a means of online contact for tech support..

So in summary, I don't see any way that I can provide a link to tech support, or even contact them except by phone.

OOOOPS, I failed to notice that the Cox help you referenced was an email address, I read it too fast and took it for the Cox Help page. Bear with me, I'm old and not as quick as I used to be.

I used the email address to send them a link,  thank you very much for providing that, I"ll let you know what happens.

Well the solution is simple, Cox decided to cancel my TV subscription, so I had no TV service.  They told me they canceled my service because I had an outdated cable box, which I didn't use anyway.  So that was the reason I couldn't sign in to anything

But it works out great for me, I just added HBO and Cinemax to my Amazon Prime account for the same price that Cox charges ($14.99/$9.99), but I don't have to pay over $125, plus all the attendant surcharge fees/taxes, for a TV package to get those two channels.

I didn't use it since I have an HD antenna and get the 5 major broadcast channels, which is all I need for "TV." With my Netflix and Amazon (now with HBO and Cinemax), I have the same options as always, but I'll save about $174 a month over what I've been paying. I still have my Cox internet, but that's the only service I have now..

So I'm actually a happy camper at this point.

However, I'm sorry I took up so much of everyone's time, but I had no idea they had actually decided to cancel my TV subscription. I'm on autopay and they debited my account for the full amount, including TV, and then two weeks later they decided to just cancel my TV, wish I'd known.  Since they had collected their payment I had no idea my TV service had been canceled.

Again I apologize for asking for help and taking up everyone's time when it was a simple matter of no TV service. I feel kind of bad about that.

Thanks for the help though, and the email address helped me contact them and determine why I couldn't sign in to anything.

Have a great day everybody !!

Ah, so you did change your TV package.  You just didn't know it. 😀  Glad it worked out for you.
