Over the past 5 or so days, my internet has been going in and out of service, currently I am about 10 feet from my router, in the same room with nothing between us and my iphone has 1 signal bar. I tried to reset the modem but it didn't seem to change anything. I used to be able to be up stairs in my house(router is downstairs) and be able to get full signal, and even 2 in the farthest distance from the router possible. Lately I'm lucky to even be able to get 1 bar when I'm sitting next to my router

What kind of router do you have?

It's a buffalo air station. I don't know the exact model.

Sorry can't help without knowing the model. Have you tried contacting Buffalo or trying their support? At the very least they should be able to help you find the model number. I can tell you it will probably begin with a W. Like WZRXXXXX. Look for a sticker on it somewhere.

Well first thing I notice is the router could be as old as 9 years old. That makes it possible the router's wireless is just broken. Do you get low signal with multiple devices? It could be wireless congestion, but that would more effect speed then distance. One thing I would check is if the antenna is screwed in all the way, and then try a factory reset. If possible, try different wireless channels. But other then that, may be time for a new router.

At 9 years you've got about 5 more years of service than normally could be expected, I'd look at upgrading.

The router itself is actually only a couple years old, I bought it brand new a few years back, but I can connect to the buffalo network perfectly fine, the antenna was a little lose which fixed the signal problem, but I'm not connected to the internet. I connect to the router but not internet. It's all of my devices, Iphone, ipad, toshiba laptop and my wife's Lenovo laptop

Well I have given the best advice I have. If you can get online direct to modem, but not to the router, there is a issue with the router. Given its age, since even though you may have bought it only a few years ago, it was manufactured well before that, I think its pretty solidly a router issue. We can try some more advanced troubleshooting but it feels like you need on site help. Do you have any family or friends that can help? I don't think Cox can help with this issue, but others of the forum are welcome to try.

Definitely router issue if you aren't pushing a signal out from it but connecting on your computer. Might want to look at getting the $20 TP-Link from Newegg, it's a really good router and cheap enough to give it a go.

I am not affiliated in any way with TP-Link, I've had really good luck with them and they don't rape you on price for them like most brand names do.
