Why So High?

I recently moved to location I am now, and Have taken over paying bills.  Our bill was $130.00 for a phone we never use or answer, internet, and basic cable without a box.

At my former location We had a box with dvr at every TV (6-8)

Movie Channels and Sports Channels (Far bigger than what we have now)

We could order any movie you could name for .99, New rentals were $4.99, and most movies that were in the Theaters for $12.99 (options we don't even have).

All of this cost under $100.00

Is it because you are the only provider in the area is why you get to charge this high of a Rate?

I don't think Cox was even in my former area of Overland Park KS.  Everyone used Time Warner, Everest, or AT&T.  I don't remember cox being there, or not many people used it.

Just wondering. Thanks

Not sure where you are living now, but I live in NW Arkansas and they have pretty much established a monopoly here.  Their pricing is inconsistent, to say the least.  Found that my mother is being charged less for all of her services than we are, and we have the same bundle.  Cox can't explain themselves.  Well....they probably could with "you live on the golf course in a high-end area while your mom lives in a lower income area" but that would be illegal and they probably know it.

I just got off the phone with DirectTV and am switching this week.  We are completely overcharged for our service and they insisted they couldn't give a better deal, so we are out.  We watch our money and they don't care.  Not good business,

I am wondering the same thing.  I have Time-Warner in Wisconsin and receive comparable service for 1/3 less that what I am paying in Phoenix, AZ.   In addition, Cox keeps switching the channel availablity from one "Service Pack" to another to make sure that the most popular channels are distributed across the "packs" so you must subscribe to more thus increasing their income.  I have lived in an area where, when one cable company seemed indifferent to the needs of their customers and started charging as if they were a monopoly, The municipality took charge and did something unusual; they allowed another cable company to come in and compete for the business.  People changed companies in droves which, of course, caused the original company to bring their offerings and pricing in line. It saved some of their business.   Perhaps what we need here is some good old-fashioned American spirit of competition.  I, for one, enjoy the convenience of cable service, but it is beginning to feel like a luxury and, with other options available, not a very affordable one.

Paying $160/month for Internet and Tv, I had comparable service from Optimum in Wyoming and the bill never hit $100

I also think my bill is waaaay toooo high!  My father in Wisconsin, has another carrier and his bill is nearly half of what my bill is. Same service, phone, computer, and tv. I have called Cox many times to see HOW I can possibly cut down my bill, and guess what..... the only way to do that is to lose tv channels. No offers for a price break. Nothing. Went down a tier on tv and saved a whoppin' $10!  Come on Cox... is this really the best you can do for a cx who has had service with you for OVER 25 YEARS!!!!

Well, I used to have it at 119 because I locked in my rate a couple years ago and that helped. However, when that was about to expire I could lock in the rate again but only at today's rate. Didn't work the same way as a phone contract which was a bit disappointing. I stick with Cox simply because their internet is better and also their signal isn't as affected by weather the way satellite is. Anyway, now I'm at 130 but I could easily see that at 150 within 2 years with the continued rate increases/adjustments.
