I currently have the Pref. HSI and I am using a SB5101u modem. Would I see any improvement if I upgraded to a SB6141? I do experience some lag during afternoon/evenings. I have a wired ps4 and use a Linksys 54G wireless router which may also need to be upgraded. Just hoping to get a little feedback to see if I need to upgrade or not before I go out and spend the money. Thanks in advance for your help.

A new DOCSIS 3,0 modem may get you more consistent speed, and maybe even faster speed, but it won't do much for latency.
Do you only get the lag playing the PS4? Any problem with gaming or streaming on the PC? If not, it may be PSN, or Cox's connection into PSN thats slowing down. If thats the case, a new modem won't help.
Is the PS4 wireless? If so, I think a new router will improve your gaming experience more then a new modem. If you have money for both, then by all means get both. Chain is only as strong as the weakest link.
Just what ever you do..don't buy a gateway. Let me know if you want any suggestions on modem and router models.

Laptop can slow to crawl too at times. Sometimes I'll lose wifi on the laptop and my phone with a message saying that my wifi is unstable. PS4 is wired right to the router.

I would probably start by looking into a new router first then, and see how many of your problems continue. At the very least I think it should help with your wireless issues. Maybe more.

Ok, thanks for the help. I'll start with the router first and then go from there.
