Every time I launch CSOB I receive the error; "Secure Online Backup for Windows was either not installed properly or some unexpected error occured while launching, please try relaunching. If the problem persists, repair / reinstall the application."
I have tried to repair and to uninstall and reinstall the app numerous times and nothing seems to fix.
This is identical to a post from January 2014 which I could not reply to. There was no solution to it. I am having this exact problem.
I tried the one suggestion (disable firewall) which made no difference, and I tried to Run As Administrator (which has fixed some things in Windows 7), but no luck.
I recently installed on Windows 7 64bit and CSOB, and it was working fine. After installing and uninstalling some video editing software and changing the network name of my PC, suddenly CSOB stopped working. I uninstalled ALL Cox software, rebooted, and re-installed CSOB- I still get the error.
I am out of troubleshooting ideas. I would really like to use the software. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any other ideas I can try to troubleshoot or solve??
Thanks

First, I have heard a few people saying they couldn't get the client to work on Window 7 64bit, but could on 32bit. You might try running it in XP mode if you have Windows 7 Pro. See here for more info.
Another possibility is something happened when you downloaded the program for the second time. If there was any packet loss or problem with the connection, the installer may have been corrupted. Try uninstalling everything, and re-download the installer. Just in case, also save it to your desktop. Some of other Cox applications have issues installing from the temp files.
Last, could you give some detail on the different programs you installed and other things that occurred between the first install and second install? Did you run any Microsoft Updates?

Thanks. I don't think I want to go to the extent of running virtual XP just to run the backup program that used to run fine in Windows 7.
I used the same install I used the first time I installed it.
I didn't run any MS updates (as far as I know), and I don't remember each program. I was looking for a video editing program, so I installed and removed a few different ones. I also changed the network name of my PC.
This time I uninstalled the CSOB software, removed my previous online backups from backup.cox.com, and removed any mention of Cox backup from my registry, rebooted, and resintalled the fresh download. Still same error! I give up. Any other ideas? Anyone?

I'm having the exact same issue on Windows 7 x64. Will calling a 1-800 number really help with this? Maybe better to pass this on to the company providing the software to fix the bug?

I agree. I have not tried calling the 800 number because I know how that goes... repeat a bunch of steps I have already done; I figure it they had a fix for this, someone would have posted it on here. I have given up on software that doesn't work, and I am looking for something similar to backup to my own FTP server. It is a shame because it was really cool when it worked. sigh
