Remote won't power on/off cable box

So here's my issue. I have Countour at my place. I've noticed that when I hit power all my TV responds but not the cable box. I've called tech support twice and have tryed their fixes. I have changed remote batteries, reset cable box and check settings on the Countour menu. Nothing has worked. Is this box supposed to stay on 24/7? Does anyone has a fix for this?

Thanks!

Same issue here.  Our Contour 2 box in the family room (with the only DVR) does the same.  We hit the power button to shut off the TV, AUDIO RECEIVER, and BOX.  Well, if I turn the TV on manually, I see the box must STILL be on!  In fact, sometimes it is showing the screen saver (which is pretty cool by the way).  Also, we LOVE the system.  We have 6 TV's with 5 server boxes.  This may be a flaw.  I believe if I hit the blue circle, it will turn off.  Perhaps it has to stay on to serve the other boxes in the house?

Hello,

The new Contour service requires that the main dvr box stay on at all times. The dvr box streams information to the client boxes.  If the main dvr box loses power for any reason, then the client boxes will also stop working.

Thanks,

I understand the client boxes wouldn’t be able to view or record programs from DVR. But does that mean they also would not be able to tune normal available channels?

What about if you do not have DVR? My contour box never shuts off either. It is not a DVR box. I only have one box. It never shuts off.

The client boxes actually do not have the ability to tune channels. They simply facilitate the process of connecting other TVs in the home to the DVR host box. This setup allows for a more reliable experience when attempting to pause/FF/RW live TV on a client box.

Thanks for reply and clarifying. That would worry me, since one box (DVR) would cause lost of all TV’s connected until host could be replaced. My Contour 1 does not work that way, the client box can still tune regular channels with DVR disabled.
