Port Forwarding issue

I have a Cox modem Cisco DBQ3212 and i cannot get port forwarding to work.

I have troubleshot the issue extensively.  I have tried with 2 different routers and even bought a new one thinking the others were messed up somehow.  Even the new one does not work.

I have opened ports on the router to connect to my farms DVR camera system for watching the animals.  I have made sure to select ports that are not on Cox's do not use list.

What gives?  I never had this problem with my old Motorola Surfboard modem.

Port forwarding is not a function of your modem.  It is done by your router ... what router do you have connected to the 3212?  Is the camera system you are trying to connect to on the same network or are you connecting from outside via the internet?  If outside, are you using a dynamic DNS service or how are you accessing your network?  A little more about your setup will help.

Hi Tedhrs,

AllenP is correct. What are you trying to achieve? We might be able to point you in the right direction if we have a little bit more information.

I assume you mean DPQ3212? Asothers have said, what port forwarding means, is forwarding the port over the router's NAT to a specific computer. Since the DPQ3212 is a modem, and not a router or gateway, it has no NAT. It would be like a switch breaking port forwarding. Have you tried connecting the DVR camera direct to the DPQ3212?

+1 What router do you have?
