Password problem setting up IMAP

My COX account password works fine for everything EXCEPT IMAP settings.  My spouse uses IMAP without any problems using his standard COX login password. 

Settings: 

  Using Thunderbird

  email:  [same as I've been using for years with COX pop account]

  port:  993

  username:  [same as email less "@cox.net"]

  security:  SSL/TSL

  authentication method:  Normal Password  [and I've typed it in when asked over and over!]

  "Get messages" fails asking for new password.

  My password is 8 characters with letters and number and to repeat, works fine to log onto the Cox website, etc.

Are you trying to change a POP3 account in Thunderbird to IMAP?  If so, you have to delete the account in TB and create a new one with IMAP settings. 

Second, how is it not working? What error is it giving? Can you not send or receive? Can your spouse use IMAP with your account on their computer?
