I will try my best to stay within the ground rules of this forum but as a disclaimer I might inadvertently cross the line, so apologies for that...
I am shocked with the poor quality of my DVR. Would you like to know hat's wrong with my DVR?... Well, plain and simple it doesn't work! It will not record, it does not pause or rewind and if that wasn't enough, it is constantly freezing and resetting itself, as in 15-20 minutes resets.
This is my second unit. I had the first replaced on the first day of service . I have also had problems with the modem (had it also replaced) but that's a separate forum. So, forget about calling customer service... The reps are super nice but basically, there is not much they can do if the DVR is BAD. The only suggestion they can give you is go to the COX Solutions store and request a replacement (which I already had to do for the internet modem).
I have used DVRs from Comcast and Dish (while living in the Bay Area) and never never never had any problems with them. So, I don't understand what the problem could be with Cox purchasing GOOD DVRs. My understanding is that none of your DVRs are new, but actually re-furbished. Could that be problem?
Finally, and maybe unrelated, I constantly receive messages indicating that certain channels are out of service and/or that OnDemand is not available. I can see this happening sporadically during off hours, but not with the regularity in which it occurs, specially during the weekend.
Needless to say, I am very very disappointed, not to mention the frustration that I feel for paying for something that I can't use (i.e. the DVR) and for cable service that is LOUSY (i.e. constant service disruptions)

Took me a while to locate your account, but once I did I had to split your post off the thread it was on, because your DVR is not a Whole Home type. Regardless, what you're describing is not the usual experience for standalone (Rovi) or Whole Home (Trio) DVRs.
Not recording, pausing, or rewinding at all would generally indicate either an activation failure or a hard drive problem, and if it was an activation failure I may have already corrected it by sending what we call a 'balancing' signal. If it's a hard drive failure, then more than one in a row is possible, but rare. Most of our Rovi and some of our Trio DVRs are reconditioned, but they are tested thoroughly. We use a similar equipment handling process to the ones Comcast and other cable providers use, and use some of the same models they do, so you should have a similar experience with our DVRs (if not better ).
If you're continuing to have issues then we would really need to schedule a service call.
