Mini box

Is it true the digital mini boxes will not work for economy package?

Cannot see this mentioned anywhere but my box will not scan any higher than channel 19.

Is this true?

No, that is not true.  The minibox should work with the economy pkg.  If you were getting channels direct off the cable which are not part of the economy package, you won't receive them any more.  As always, bypass any splitters and check all connections, it should scan way above 19.

Well no tech support can help. That is the answer they have given me.Not one time but twice!

The mini box willbstopbat 19 then go to 63.  I have scanned many times. I hookup directly from cable,no splitter.

But no one can tell me why other than the box will not support the economy package.

The purpose of the box was to give tv's in other rooms the capabilities as the cable box does on the main TV set, without  getting the cable box. Is this not so?

Hi Delores,

I truly apologize for all the confusion! Cox TV Economy includes a variety of channels ranging across video service levels, as well as access to PPV and a handful of networks within the On DEMAND library.

Since the mini box is a one-way receiver and cannot be configured for all of these services, the TV Economy channel lineup will not work correctly using a mini box. In order to have access to the features and channels within TV Economy, an additional Advanced TV HD receiver is necessary.

Economy goes from channel 19 thru 75 skipping a few premium channels for the next level.

The basic package is below economy and it stops at  19. But with just the cable wire to TV we get a few channels on up to 62.

So what your saying is the mini box is useless without having another piece of equipment?

The HD receiver is the cable box ?

If so then mini boxes are not needed?

Delores: "Is it true the digital mini boxes will not work for economy package?"

Since Day 1, Cox has stated that the mini-boxes are for the Starter and Essential tiers only.

Hi Delores,

In order to receive the TV Economy channel lineup on your second TV, you will need an HD receiver or HD/DVR. You do not need the mini box. As you've already discovered, the mini box will only tune a handful of channels to which you subscribe.

Domino: "Since Day 1, Cox has stated that the mini-boxes are for the Starter and Essential tiers only.

"I guess Day 1 no longer applies in San Diego-South, as far as receiving the complete Essential tier . This was in my latest bill from Cox FWIW. And why does San Diego have to pay $2.99 vs. $1.99 elsewhere?

"As Cox prepares to transition all customers to a 100% digital platform, we will offer a new equipment option, called the "mini box," starting on September 21, 2015. The mini box will enable access to all digital channels in our Cox TV Starter service, select digital channels in our Cox TV Essential service, the on-screen program guide and parental control features. The standard monthly fee for this equipment option will be $2.99 per mini box"

Ed Head,

Are you having problems getting all of your Essential channels with the Mini-Box? This thread is referring to TV Economy which is a different package than Essential. What channels are you not getting?

Also, please to to refrain from posting billing inquiries to the technical forums as they cannot be addressed here. If you have an account specific issue such as a billing question, you can reach us at cox.help@cox.com

Come on Dina, read for once before responding. I posted YOUR Cox announcement of the upcoming launch of the mini box in San Diego which states that not all Essential channels will be available. This is not a billing question. The post was for Domino because of his statement that the two tiers would be available per Cox.

Please do your job and provide real customer service to your paying customers.

Hi Everyone, TV Economy consist of the Starter pack and a selected few channels from the Essential pack. The tap outside is trapped to only allow the Starter channels to come through. The additional Essential channels are accessed via a digital receiver. If you have a TV without a receiver, you are able to get the Starter channels straight from the wall. Once the Digital Transition is complete, the mini box is only an extension of the direct to set channels. The channels you were getting straight from the wall will be the same channels you get once the mini box is installed. You also get the HD channels and On-Screen guide but you don’t get any other additional digital services unless you upgrade to an actual digital receiver. I apologize for any confusion this has caused.

The two tiers are available. Some of the Essential channels are SDV or Contour HD channels and are not receivable with the mini-box at this time. I've been told that most of the SDV channels on Essential will go linear as the switch-over date approaches, which won't be for months. See schedule at http://www.cox.com/aboutus/policies/alldigital.cox

As for your mini-box charge, without seeing your bill I wouldn't even guess at what the reasons might be.

BTW, why do you have a mini-box already? S.D. is many months away from switching over.

Domino, I was just quoting a Cox mini box announcement for San Diego that was in my latest bill. I was looking forward to the mini box, but was surprised to see that Cox says the price will be $1 more here. Must be an addendum to our Sun Tax. I believe you also live in the vicinity and assume you will also be subject to the increased cost, if it's not a typo.
