If you're referring to the Cox Security Suite, it's actually powered by the McAfee antivirus and firewall engine. It should be sufficient for general use, but the simple fact is that no security software is ever going to be 100% foolproof. There's a constant race between malicious software writers and the people who work to detect and block them, and things can slip through the cracks despite any company's best efforts.
However, without the Cox Security Suite, we don't provide any kind of built-in security beyond blocking a few known vulnerable ports and having basic spam filters on by default in email, so we do recommend that you install the Security Suite or an antivirus/firewall of similar quality on any computers that are online.
