Externally controlled cable boxes?

Does cox offer any cable boxes that can be controlled externally as part of home automation project?

For example, I would like to be able to turn the box on, change channels, and turn it off using an external method.  Something like firewire, network (rest, http, etc), or serial.  I would really prefer not to use IR because it is unreliable and can conflict if you have multiple boxes iin the same location.

I don't really want/need DVR capabilities.

Hi Kma,

None of our receivers are capable of communicating via home automation at this time. I'm sorry!

It wouldn't necessarily be for home automation.  You would need similar controls to manage a cable box from a TIVO or other DVR.

So cox doesn't have any receivers cable of this?  Its a shame - directv and dish both have receivers that can and I was really looking to move to cox.

Our HD cable boxes and DVRs are capable of interacting with TiVos. We offer Cox On Demand via TiVos now. Perhaps I misunderstood your initial question?

Thanks,

What interface does the TIVO use to communicate with the cable boxes?

Tried to dig up some info on the Cox/Tivo relationship. Below is what I found. Or where you looking for something more like this?

Tivo Press release.  "Cox's On DEMAND content is now available for joint subscribers using TiVo Roamio® and TiVo Premiere DVRs" "more than 18,000 movies and shows will now be seamlessly integrated with Cox TV channels and the popular streaming apps available through TiVo,"
