Email Problem

I normally get at least 80 emails a day.  I get most of those overnight or early morning (using computer 1).  I leave the night emails on the server (using computer 2) and take the emails off of the server (using computer 1) in the morning.  Last night I got over 12 emails.  This morning, I received only 2 emails (using computer 1) and I should have gotten at least the 12 emails that I left on the server from the previous night.  I have tried 4 different computers and none of them can retrieve those missing emails, even using the Cox web mail site.  What is happening to my email messages?

I would start by signing into webmail again and going through the setting to ensure everything is correct there.  Things to check for are automatic forwarding, message filters, allow/block senders, and the spam filter settings.  It may be useful to try disabling all of those for diagnostic purposes.  If the spam filter is set to deliver spam messages to the spam folder there should be a spam folder to look at in webmail as well.

I checked all my on line settings and there are no filters activated.  I checked the SPAM and trash folders and there were no emails in there.  I went to my second computer and found 9 of the missing emails and sent them to myself, today, to see if I could receive them on my first computer (main email storage).  I received all of these emails on my first computer.  My first computer is my only computer that takes emails off of the server and so any emails that I send out on my second computer are also forwarded to my first computer.  I then, daily, send my email files, from my first computer, over to my second computer and all of email messages on my second computer are overwritten.  I stopped this practice until I could recover the missing emails from my second computer.  I found that one of the emails that I had forwarded  to my first computer, did not get through to the first computer on the problem day.  This means that even emails sent and received, only on Cox, also disappeared by the next morning. I did receive this email, on the second computer, the same night that I sent it.

My emails seems to have returned to normal, today.

Tech support is now looking into this problem.

It sounds like from what you've described this could be an email client configuration issue, probably with the 2nd PC if it's supposed to leave email on the server.  I'd suggest removing and re-adding the account settings per your preferences to see if that makes a difference.

I contacted tech support again today, about my email problem report, that  I had filed two days earlier.  I was informed that a person, using my password, had accessed the email server and had removed some of my emails from this server.  I was advised to change my passwords on both this account and on my other on line accounts.   I did as suggested  this afternoon.

I would suggest that if you have not updated your email password, in the past year, you should do it now, so that this problem does not also happen to you!
