Email Outage Update 11:00pm December 16

As of 11 pm ET, access to Cox email has been restored to 55% of our customers previously affected by the email outage. As access is restored, customers will immediately be able to send and receive email messages. Teams will continue to work through the night to bring service back online for all Cox email customers.  We expect to have restored access to all customers by late- morning on Monday.

We have queued all emails received since Friday. Once access is restored, queued emails will arrive gradually but may not be delivered in chronological order. Customers may continue to receive these queued emails over the course of several days after access is restored.

We deeply regret the impact this outage has had on our customers and truly appreciate their patience as all Cox resources continue to be focused on this restoration effort.

Please check back for another update Monday at 9:00  a.m. ET.

THIS OUTAGE HAS BEEN TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.  THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE UPDATE TO SPECIFICALLY ADDRESS WHEN A PARTICULAR AREA WOULD HAVE EMAIL ACCESS.  WE HAVE TO BE PATIENT BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE IN THIS MATTER..I WILL GRADUALLY RELEASE MY TIES TO COX SO THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO BE DEPENDENT ON JUST MY COX EMAIL.  IN THE MESSAGES THAT HAVE BEEN SENT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY INDICATION OF HOW THE CLIENT WILL BE MADE WHOLE OR A DISCUSSION ON COMPENSATION. YOU LIED TO SUGGEST THAT THE EMAIL WOULD BE RESTORED BY LATE SATURDAY AND IT IS SUNDAY NIGHT AND SERVICE HAS STILL NOT BEEN RESTORED.  YOUR CLIENTS DESERVE ANSWERS TO WHY THIS OUTAGE OCCURED AND WHAT YOUR PLANS ARE AS A COMPANY SO THAT IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. .....

I AM TIRED OF WAITING FOR YOUR SO-CALLED TECHNICIANS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.  DID YOU EVER HEAR OF A BACKUP PLAN OR SYSTEM?  THIS MESS HAS NOT ONLY RUINED MY WEEKEND BUT WILL ALSO IMPACT THE CHRISTMAS OF 2 LITTLE BOYS. iT TAKES A LOT TO MAKE ME MAD.  COX HAS SUCCEEDED.  ENOUGH ALREADY.

Give me a break.  A fifth grade student could write an update like the ones you post.  You are obviously trying to placate a great number of people.

An honest, direct and factual response would be greatly appreciated.  Not the mumbo jumbo you continue to post.  What you are calling an update is in truth just the same statement repeated over and over.

Patience has evaporated by nightfall on Friday. It's now Monday morning and little recompense will suffice for this travesty of service to its dedicated customers. The news has been out to NBC and other stations finding it newsworthy enough to signify that massive lawsuits are possible. What a shameful occurance.

Do you Cox folks believe it is worth the $3 credit they will graciously give us for this "inconvenience" they speak about?  To me it wouldn't be worth the effort if they paid my next 3 bills.  There are more holes in the story than a sea full of sponges.

Re: My Cox email outage status since Friday, Dec 14 - thru Sun, Dec 16, 11:54 PM Central

STATUS:  Still DOWN  (I am in the 45% group)

WHERE:  KANSAS

I registered with Google/Outlook gmail today & can send & receive email. (It was not all that easy but I suggest if you are among the 45% still down - to try it - because it's obvious by now that whatever Cox reports or will say about being 'a friend in the digital age' lacks credibility - particularly if & when they expect to have resolved any "unresolved issue."

This is very inconvenient I agree. Sometimes I work from home and just as my luck has been lately I needed to check an email I was pretty sure I sent a client. (please don't call the wambulance) Access denied!

A posted letter by Cox, explaining the reason for the down time would be appreciated so I can send to any clients who have sent me emails I apparently won't receive for a few (?) days. And apparently according to the "email Outage Update" if someone is sending me something - I won't know and they won't know. Right?

Thank the computer gods I can use another account.

Until the regional monopolies get broken with regard to cable TV and internet I wouldn't expect any sort of real customer service from any of the players.  They know they have the customers right where they want them- and whatever details of these outages and contingencies are something they figure we don't need to know.  The treatment that loyal customers get is beyond atrocious- with ever increasing rates- a marker of a non competitive business environment- lower rates will only be extended to new customers when they sign on- and for limited times.

To be fair, I have actually had a few positive experiences dealing with customer service- albeit after being subjected to the patience testing delay tactic that is the automated menus one is confronted with when one first calls Cox... and most other entities we hold accounts with.

My problem is less with the outage- which is an inevitability in the grand scheme of things; my issue- as well as that of many of the folks here has been with Cox's lack of information- in favor of placating with what time has shown to be rather transparent corporate whitewash of a major problem that has been exacerbated by Cox Communication's rather obvious contempt for its paying customers.  Cox is by no means alone in this but for the duration of this weekend it has been on regular display where except for the last couple, the updates have had a glaring lack of hard information- the earliest calculated to cultivate an expectation of a restoration time line that the succeeding couple days proved to be unrealistic.

For my purposes, the actual inconvenience was somewhat limited... thankfully I do not rely on the email services for income and any communications that are still being held in queue for me can wait a couple days.  I cannot speak for those who relied more heavily on the services for more critical communications- job, school, etc.

As of this typing I have not gotten my service restored but I have established a contingency plan in case it should drag on much longer.  This weekend underscores the need not only for folks to furnish alternate means of electronic communication but also the need for some much needed competition- without which the cable and high speed internet business has become complacent with no driving desire to render any sort of quality customer service to maintain a cash flow that seems to be taken for granted.
