DVR Box Hard Drives Spinning Up

I found thise elsewhere but the topic was locked......I keep hearing the hard drive turn on and spin up when the DVR box is off. This happens even when we're not recording shows.

This seems like  huge waste of electricity....why is this happening?

Hello Narsil,

That does not sound good at all and I want to assist you. Does the dvr record properly? Are there any other issues with the dvr? (poor picture quality, freezing, skipping sound, etc)

As far s I can tell the DVR works fine.....although I would suspect it won't be too long before that hard drive fails.

Note too that the DVR utilizes the hard drive for live TV as well as part of the buffering feature to allow you to rewind on the fly therefore it is normal for there to be regular hard drive activity.  If it sounds at all unusual we can definitely swap the box for you.
