So if you live in California, apparently Cox is now going to cap your data at 1TB, and charge you a ridiculous amount for overages. WHY? Why am I paying for high speed, premium service, when I can't use it? I can exceed the cap in less than a day. In fact, if I leave my streaming services on, my bill would theoretically be about $25,000 with overages. WTF Cox? Are you serious?
Data usage has increased over the years, and with the available streaming choices, internet users WILL be using tons of data. That's just how it works. I have 5 adults in my famiily, and they all use computers. Of course our usage will top 1TB per month.
I see that COX has provided an solution for the data cap by dreaming up a 'service' called Unlimited data, which does nothing but cost the consumer more money. Does it give them better performance? NO. Better quality of service? NO. Anything? NO. It is simply a way for Cox to make more money.
Placing data caps does nothing but piss of customers. If you want to charge more for your service, JUST DO THAT. Don't hide it under a guise of something that it is not.
If Cox decides to stick to its data cap policy, I for one will find another internet service provider. I will also tell everyone I know not to use Cox.

+1 for this being ridiculous. Especially with 4G+ a month isn't even traffic to me.

Hello, We definitely do not want you to feel this way about us. The newly imposed caps will only affect only a very small percentage of our customers. We have introduced data offers with higher limits. Depending on the needs for your family. There is also a plan with an unlimited option. You can look into these offers online at cox.com/datausage, or using our data usage meter or in the Cox Connect app. You can determine what plan will better suit your family's needs. As a reminder, Cox provides a grace period of two consecutive billing cycles. During the grace period, you receive notifications and information about your data usage, but you won’t be charged for any usage above your data plan.

I was wrong about my previous estimate of 4GB a month being used from just being on the cox network. It actually works out to about 190GB per month becuase you're not counting bytes, you're actually counting pakcets and mulitplying by 1450!.
So all these 46 byte broadcast ARPs I receive from cox network itslef probing for userd/unused addresses uses 20% of my alloted usage!.

d3x0r has it right. I was on vacation for 2 weeks, and continued to see daily internet usage without any devices connected! Some days as much as 10GB. At that rate, I'd consume about 300GB - or just short of a third of my allotted 1 TB - doing nothing.!!
Cox - please explain. How can I use my data when I'm not here, and nothing is connected?
If this is actually occuring, you are misleading your customers at a minimum.

Cox don't care what we feel otherwise they won't be imposing this crazy data caps.
"There is also a plan with an unlimited option." are you kidding me?? i am already paying $64+ for my internet plan and now you want us to pay a additional $50 for the unlimited option! thats insane!
whats next? limit our internet usage from 6am-10pm unless we pay a additional $50 for the unlimited access anytime of the day and say "it will only affect a very small percentage of our customers because most sleep early anyways.
or pay additional $50 and cox won't throttle your streaming services "like to stream movies and tv shows? For a small additional payment of $50 per month you get unthrottle streaming services from 6am-9pm!"
Internet is part of our daily life now. FCC needs to regulate this bs.

I have too but nothing will be done unless our representative do something about the blatant corruption in our FCC aka Ajit V. Pai. Whats worse is that these cable company have monopoly over our area! and they work along with their competitors to *** us dry. How is this even legal??
Google fiber is our only hope to run these *** cable company out of business.

Was doing some math.... I get 200Mbps downloads. that's 25MBps. so technically I can download my allowed 400GB in 4 hours. So I'm entitled to use only 0.55% of the bandwidth I can use.
200GB is used by cox internal managment so you only get 800GB usable. Since they count packets, and basically every packet in is acknowldged, you only get 400GB allowable data (assuming the down stream sends full packets). 400GB / 25MBs = 16000 seconds = 4.4Hours.
There are 720 hours in a 30 day month. 4.4/720 = 0.61% (my initial calculation of 4 hours dropped the decimal part of the hour...).
