Contour 9865HDC IR repeater
Ok I saw several threads on this but no one really had an answer to what should be a VERY common set up - using an IR extender/repeater. Prior to having the Contour box put in, my IR extender worked flawlessly on all components including the old Motorola box. Cox Tech installed the new box and placed my old IR sensor on the left side of the box. Appeared to work fine - until he left and I closed the cabinet door - and it did not work. So he must have thought it was working, but with the door open, the remote was transmitting directly to the box. Since first tech could not finish the install, two days later we had another tech out, so I asked him about the remote sensor. He relocated the IR sensor to the right hand side of the box. Did not work there either. He left with it unresolved.
After doing my own research, which I should not have to do, I learned to shine a flash light on the box to find the IR eyes. Still would not work. I also learned it seems the issue may be that some IR repeaters are dual band. I don't know if my current IR repeater is dual band, it is several years old, but it works fine on all other components. A dual band IR repeater is only like $25, but before I waste money - does anyone know what the frequency is on the 9865HDC. Tech on phone did not know. Kind of taking the fun out of the whole house DVR if I cant have the nice clean hidden box set up that I have for so many years.

All Cisco brand receivers/DVRs, including the 9865HDC, use 57 KHz instead of the old 38 KHz. If you get a dual band extender - like the http://www.cmple.com/p-165-dual-frequency-ir-receiver-sa-hdtv-dvr-and-directtv-h21.aspx - let us know how well it works.

I'm guessing that you have your IR extender/repeater connected to the IR Port on the back of the 9865HD DVR. I'm trying to track down a dual band IR Extender so I can test it with a 9865HD DVR for you. In the meantime, my best suggestion is to verify the return policy before you purchase a dual band IR Extender. That way, you'll be able to return it and get your money back if it doesn't work the way you want it to.

Becky have you had any success finding an IR extender/repeater that works with the 9865HD rear panel IR jack?

I have not been able to find anyone with an IR extender/repeater that I can test.

I gave up waiting for someone else to solve this, so I took a chance on this: Sewell BlastIR Pro
Turns out it works really well, but it's overkill IMHO and more than I wanted for this simple problem. All I wanted was an IR receiver with a 3.5mm jack on the other end to plug into the back of the DVR. The BlastIR is a tiny box with IR inputs and outputs, but also requires external 5v power. It can control a lot of devices and take up to three IR inputs. That's why I'm saying it's overkill, but it does work quite well.
I'm currently using the emitters attached to the front of the DVR to control it, but am planning on trying a direct connect from the box into the 3.5mm jack on the back of the DVR to see if that works instead. It doesn't come with this type of cable, but Sewell's website says it 'may' work.

Did you consider trying the one at:

Let us know.

Based on the feedback on Amazon, I did not bother with that one.

According to the following Cox webpage, that port is active.
http://www.cox.com/residential/support/tv/article.cox?articleId=685eba20-cd5c-11e2-7906-000000000000#front {set location to San Diego area first.}
I wonder if you just received a bad IR extender?

No, based on three reviewers who all gave it the lowest rating possible and said it didn't work.
i get that YOU want it to work, but I'd rather not waste my time and money. Why don't you buy one and let us know how it works out for you?
