I thought it would just be a replacement of the wireless router, but the new wireless router doesn't access the internet. Is there anything that needs to be reset on the Cox side so my new router will work? Replaced an old linksys with a netgear 6300v2.

Try powering down everything, your modem, new router and devices connected to the router. Power up the modem and wait for it to boot up ( all lights except link solid). Power up router and wait for it to boot. Power up a device and test. Let us know if this helps, also post the model of your modem.
