Cannot receive C-SPAN on new digital channel

On Phoenix Cox cable C-SPAN moved from analog channel 2 to digital channel 124.

Message on channel 2:

"A digital receiver, CableCard, or TV with a digital tuner is required to continue viewing C_SPAN."

A channel scan on my two TVs with digital tuners came up with a blank on channel 124. I can receive channel 124 with a cable box (digital receiver).

It appears that C-SPAN on channel 124 is scrambled and cannot be receives with just a digital tuner "in the clear" which contradicts the message currently displayed on channel 2.

Can you explain what's happening here?

Thank you, Jeanie

I don't see anywhere in the message that said it was available in the clear.

Yes it does. "...TV with a digital tuner..." implies reception of an unscrambled digital cable channel with a built-in digital/QAM tuner; hence, by definition, in the clear.

Talked to a  Cox customer service rep today and she confirmed that channel 124 is scrambled and requires a cable box. She could not explain the misleading wording of the message.

I'm in the same boat.  My basic plan is supposed to include a whole bunch of digital channels and they're not there.  Yet another example of cox charging more and offering less.

Time to complain to the regulators (it's the AZ Corp Comm I believe - www.azcc.gov)

zonie,

Every notification I have seen lists C-SPAN as being available with a clear QAM tuner. I'd like to reach out to your local market for more info. Please email cox.help@cox.com with your account information and issue details so I can get to the bottom of this.
