Cable box automatically changing channels
If I leave my cable boxes on for an extended amount of time, they automatically change to channel 96...why? I don't want this to happen. I had it on today, went out for a walk and left it on for the dogs, and came home to channel 96. It never used to do this, it started a couple of months ago, now I want it to stop.

If you leave your receiver tuned to a SDV channel for 3-4 hours with no remote control activity, the receiver will prompt you to press a key on your remote. If you don't answer, it will switch to a non-SDV channel. This is to save bandwidth. No, you can't stop this. Teach your dogs to answer the prompt.
What is on Channel 96 anyway?

It's the "cox" local channel - Ok, I will go back to the regular animal planet channel for them instead of the HD one...then it won't change - 96 has too many infomercials for them...

If you're using a DVR, just set your DVR to record that channel. Your DVR will answer the SDV prompts.

Do you have a DVR? Maybe record a show and play that back instead? Or you could get a old remote and tape/tack the info button or some other non picture effecting button down. But I think using the non HD version is the better solution. I have a feeling they arent that picky of viewer.

The same thing happens at our house. I called Cox and the tech had no idea what I was talking about. I have serious issues with this because I record many shows with my DVD recorder and the cable box must be set to the channel I want to record. So what this means is that it is virtually impossible to set the recorder timer in advance because half way through or even before the recording starts, the box has changed to channel 2. This is terrible. No excuse.
