E-mail Transition to Yahoo! is a Mess!
Received two e-mails about Cox's transition of my e-mail account to Yahoo. Last one received March 6th that included transition FAQs (very few). As I use Outlook to access my e-mail, I noted the statement that said if I use a third-party app to access my e-mail I'd receive a follow-on e-mail with instructions to reconfigure Outlook. Well today Outlook is being rejected by Cox servers, or lack of, and I don't have any instructions on configuring Outlook to access Yahoo! using POP. I've been in a chat with Cox for the last 45 minutes and the person on the other end is more confused than I am. This is a VERY POOR roll-out.6.6KViews25likes44CommentsMy Post Yahoo Transition Results
I have 3 Cox email addresses. Prior to the transition, I used Outlook 2022/O365 to access 1 email address and another email client called "eM Client" to access the 2nd email address. I never used Cox' webmail portal to access, send and receive my emails. I only worked on 2 of the 3 accounts last night after getting an email from both cox and yahoo saying it was time to change. I clicked the link in the received email which took me to yahoo's web email site/login. I used my cox email and existing cox password. It logged me in and then asked me to make a new password immediately without first seeing the Inbox. The new password was accepted and moved forward logging me in. Then it asked me a few "do you want personalize your environment" questions which I skipped. Then I was at my Inbox Upon first entry into the new Inbox via Yahoo, all of my emails were there. Also present were my pre-existing folders that I had created under cox' control and the emails that had been in those folders just prior to the transition. What was missing were all of my "rules" and filters. So even though my folders were there, I was going to have to redo my rules in Yahoo. Your filter rules do not migrate over. I spent time in the yahoo web portal and it seemed fine for what it was. It has a good bulk email filter built in and marking email as spam is simple and effective. Better than my experience with Cox. However I was quickly turned off by the fact that I was going to have to build out all of my rules again - I probably had over 100. Yahoo has a rules/filter maximum of 500. HERE IS WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG. I went back into Outlook where Email Account #2 lives. All of the emails and folders were still there but the account settings had Cox' SMTP/IMAP configs. I was curious if I could still use Outlook and not Yahoo's portal. I went into the email settings and moved them over to Yahoo's. I made sure to give it the new password and used port 465 with all of the boxes checked. It connected without issue and started to sync. Then at the end of the sync ALL OF MY CUSTOM FOLDERS WERE GONE. Not only the folders, but any emails that were in those folders were gone too. The only emails left were those that happen to be sitting in the "Inbox" main directory but not anything that was in a subfolder under InBox. Even more interesting is the fact that all of my Rules/Filters in Outlook are still present. So as it downloads more email, I get Outlook errors regarding the fact that there is no longer a folder to move an email too that matches the rule it finds. So your rules in Outlook remain but after syncing the folders disappear, even though they had made the initial migration when you opened your InBox in Yahoo. GOOD NEWS THOUGH..... After crying at Oulook that no longer had my folders and emails, I logged back into Yahoo via the webportal. EVERYTHING IS THERE! My custom folders, the emails in them, everything. So it looks like for those of you in a similar spot, in Outlook after the sync, you will need to recreate your customer folders using the exact spelling and capitalization that you had before so that the filter rules can apply correctly. It is going to take a chunk of your day per email address to bring yourself back to a functional state. Everything I did was at a desktop computer with multiple monitors and space to manipulate lots of windows. Do not do this on a cell phone or tablet. I do not have any insight on the Yahoo app and have no plans to use that. Thunderbird and other email clients may produce a different result and experience for some of you. Best Wishes to you all during this transition time.100Views1like0CommentsI hate Yahoo
I really miss the old Cox email Here's why: 1) they bombard you with ads and to get rid of them you have to pay $60/year 2) All support requires payment - I did find a way around it by starting a chat and eventually it said it would have someone contact me - but I shouldn't have to do this 3) You can only block 500 domains and 1000 emails - no filters any more so you can't block by subject. What they define as filters are different 4) The trash is emptied automatically after 7 days 5) It doesn't show the number of emails next to Spam - you have to click on it 6) You can't sort the trash Cox didn't bother telling you how to get emails for non internet like Outlook, or even tell you you needed to do anything. I had to go out to OEClassic which is what I use to find out how to do this. The only thing I do like is that I can use bold, italics, colors, etc in sending emails.107Views1like1CommentInternet Outage
My internet has been down since last Thursday, 4/18/24. Can’t get any real response for why and estimated date of repair. All I get every morning is the following text: UPDATE: We're sorry this complex network issue is taking longer than expected to resolve. Rest assured, a dedicated team is actively working to restore consistent service. We apologize again for the inconvenience and will continue to provide daily text updates. Anybody have any answers or knowledge of what’s going on?50Views0likes1CommentYahoo Email Transition - iPhone Setup
Has anyone seen anything from Cox indicating that they know there is an issue with setting up iPhone default Mail app to work with the new Yahoo mail server we have moved to? Finally got all of my email accounts on Outlook set up and working. Not a straightforward process in the least and now instead of a Spam/Junk mail folder we get something called a "Bulk" mail folder. Looking forward to the day when AI can learn from my Deletions and automatically take care of Spam email for me. ;-)Solved6.2KViews0likes6Comments- 17Views0likes1Comment
cox transition to yahoo is a cluster
I have spent 4 days attempting to get this transition to work. NO one at cox complete care knows apple mail or iPhone. Royally messed up both my phone and desktop. I have been a cox customer for 30 years and am finished with this horrible customer service. This transition is NOT rocket science. IT SHOULD BE SEAMLESS. Cox is worthless on all levels. I am done with this company.161Views0likes3CommentsSetting up Cox email to run on Android Email App
I successfully setup Outlook to receive Cox email (through Yahoo) using the instructions I found in another forum. I also wanted to be able to continue using the Android App on my phone to receive Cox email and not have to use the Yahoo mail app, as it is full of Ads. The Android App didn't work anymore after the Cox email transition to Yahoo. I followed the same instructions as I did for Outlook: I got a temp password from Yahoo. I deleted my account in the Android App and started over. I used the temp password. Used the 993 and 465 ports. It didn't work. Does anyone have a suggestion?197Views0likes3CommentsConnecting email to Yahoo mess
Just spent 1 hour and 18 minutes on the phone with Yahoo trying to get my cox.net email I have not received for 2 days. In my case I already had a Yahoo email account. The tech showed me how to add the cox email to Yahoo. But on the positive side I am sure we will get a discount on our bills now with Cox since they don't provide email anymore. Time to look at other internet service providers.33Views0likes0CommentsAlready have a Yahoo e-mail and my cox e-mail is the recovery e-mail

This is the third time in two weeks that my Internet is down. Yesterday, and last week, it took several hours for them to figure it out and get it back up, and this morning it down again?! On April 17, 2024, an unexpected change occurred in my area, resulting in a significant decrease in my internet speed. I noticed a substantial drop of 400 Mbps, and the issue has persisted since then. It is worth noting that a service upgrade was scheduled for that day, but instead of improving the connection, it seems to have caused this problem. To investigate the issue, I conducted speed tests at various times throughout the day (9 AM, 11 AM, 3 PM, 5 PM, 10 PM, 1 AM, and 3 AM), and the results indicate that this is not a congestion-related problem. Additionally, I have observed a noticeable increase in line noise through my traffic monitor, which shows a highly erratic graph. This disturbance further contributes to the degraded performance of my internet connection. The situation worsens when connecting to Oklahoma City, OK, using Ookla's speed test, confirming that the issue is not isolated to local network conditions. Despite Cox recently introducing a 2 GIG internet plan, which I was seriously contemplating upgrading to, this sudden decrease in speed and connection stability has given me reason to pause and reconsider my decision.19Views0likes1CommentThrottling or blocking of Cloudflare
I use Cloudlfare to provide public routing to my personally hosted storage that is in my home. I use this service to provide SSL cert as well as routing in case my public IP address changes. I have a reverse proxy setup inside my home network that based on the subdomain takes me to the service inside my network for the request. Currently if I access my registered domain (mysubdomain.mydomain.net) I get a 522: connection timeout from cloudflare to my network, but if I access my public IP address directly (xx.xxx.xxx.xxx) I can successfully get to my reverse proxy server, so it seems that Cox is blocking the access from cloudflare to my reverse proxy. Is there any way to have them remove this block?93Views0likes7CommentsModem allows wired connection but not wireless?
I just recently got a panoramic wifi gateway from Cox and when I initially set it up I had no issues; however, late last night my modem suddenly disappeared from all of my devices and I could not reestablish connection. It wouldn’t even show up as an option on the list of wireless connections. My xbox is connected via ethernet cable and works fine, but nothing else can connect. Email Switch to Yahoo and Outlook
Unable to connect Outlook using POP or IMAP instructions for Yahoo Mail. It appears Yahoo is not set up for Outlook to connect our Cox.net email accounts to their POP or IMAP servers (pop.mail.yahoo.com or imap.mail.yahoo.com). Suspect the servers are rejecting anything that isn't a yahoo.com extension. One would of thought Yahoo would have planned for this ahead of time for the Cox.net extensions. When I was able to talk with a person, their suggestion was to wait 24 hrs. and try again. i.e. trying too soon after the switch The switch to Yahoo mail is anything but good. Since switching, about half the time Yahoo is not available and/or takes repeated logins. Yahoo's AI chat bot (AKA Help) is not set up to be much assistance to those with a Cox.net extension. Yahoo wants you to pay for premium service to resolve all but the very basic issues. Always referring you to a tutorial on Yahoo's help page.... which most have already looked at before starting a chat.Solved8.5KViews6likes56CommentsInternet Issue Years Later Still Happening
I have had cox's highest internet plan for as long as I can remember. I have had countless techs in my home including multiple maintenance escalation tickets called out for my issues. Still nothing changes. Every time I call to discuss the same issue, I get the same answers and have to fight to get escalated to a higher tier support so that someone understands what I am experiencing. I now chart all of my packet loss and am building a portfolio to seek legal action. I had the gigablast package which ran me $120.00 per month and can only use the internet efficiently approximately 35% of the time. As I am writing this post I have been incurring packet loss and disconnections for the past 3 hours. If a high tier cox tech would like to look into my account and see how many techs and issues I have had at my address, please do. I am going to keep posting all of my data graphs and information on the forums as calling and trying to get this settled is not working. All I can say is this has been an issue for years in my location and if I had the opportunity to switch providers, I would have left cox a long time ago. Please help! Feels like the traffic in my area is too much for our node and needs to be upgraded.95Views0likes6CommentsGigablast speed keeps dropping to 25-30MB`
Hello - about 6-8 months ago I signed up for Gigablast. It worked great. My speed wasn't ever close to a gigabyte, typically between 200-400mb. In the past week it keeps dropping to 20-40mb. If I reboot my modem it goes back to 200-400mb, for a very short while, then drops back down to 20-40mb. I don’t know what to do. I have an Arris SB8200 and a TP-Link Deco AXE-5300. This is a repeat from previous discussions. First, one of my email accounts was unavailable after numerous attempts as COX FORCED me to move to YAHOO - there was NO option and NO option to delete my email account. I followed COX's instructions to "Reactivate" and as usual they are invalid as there was NO such option. When I moved to YAHOO (no option), It would not even let me relabel it to something more meaningful. When I went the web version to see my mailbox - I get the "run around". I am done working with inept people that only want more money and provide less services. In addition to removing my email account, it deleted all notes attached to that account. Forcing me to re-invent. My suggestion to all COX users is just find another host for all your services. As a cox client for over 36 years - I AM DONE!!! I did not choose to accept the forced transfer to Yahoo mail. Instead, after receiving the surprise email from Yahoo one morning & being locked out of the webmail interface, I utilized Outlook to download my emails from the POP server and did my best to delete the account. I say did my best because once you're locked out of webmail, the hotlink to "Delete email" under your email address on the Manage Users windows isn't there. But support assures me it's deleted. So.... Everything was working fine on a Arris CM8200A DOCSYS 3.1. All good. Then I had connectivity issues, which started with Cox telling me it was an issue on my end and I should upgrade service (more money). The issue ended up turning into outages over the next two days. Still could not connect. One service no show and then the second service call. The second service call was quite good. Checked and replaces something at the curb, replaced some cables, a bunch of ends, a couple splitters, checked signal all over the place and said it was spot on. When all was said and done, my modem was dead. So I ran to the store and got a SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1. Hooked it up, got it registered. It's working, I have internet, but no DOCSIS 3.1. I did find this article: Not receiving DOCSIS 3.1 | Cox Community, although not much help Been on that stupid Cox App, that keeps dropping chats, for hours a day over a few days. It should not be this hard or take this long. I was told twice (once by CAG) to call the manufacturer because Arris needs to address/configure something and the problem is with the modem. I have called a number of times. Arris states that there is nothing to configure in the modem and it is dependent on the signal from the ISP. If it is getting a signal, then it is working. This makes sense to me. I did reset the modem twice with that little switch. Cox has reset it at their end. Cox tells me they have re-provisioned the modem like it was a new one again. No improvement. I know we have had historic problems with service. On neighbor says he is running an old DOCSIS 2.0 (so he says) and his wife complains that it drops her VPN quite often, and I have another neighbor that is similar to ours, it drops about once or twice a week, usually on the same day. Sometimes cable tv gets pixelated but when reported, apparently that is the signal Cox received. From all this I feel like I know where the problem lies, but Cox keeps pointing me in other directions. Any ideas on how to get my DOCSIS 3.1 working correctly? Please let me know.43Views0likes2CommentsWhat's happening to my incoming email?
