Horrible Lag
For the past six months I have been getting worse and worse lag from the hours of 5 pm to 11 pm EST. It has gotten so bad that during those hours (the main hours I am home) playing a game or using the internet for anything but simple web surfing has become impossible. During this period of the day, my ping will consistently jump between 50 and 500+ making doing anything, especially playing a video game impossible. This happens no matter what game is played, below is a specific example from tonight showing a screen shot from Valve's DOTA 2, I also have a video of this happening for two minutes before I get so fed up I quit playing. This does not happen to other friends who live in the same city and use cox cable. At the suggestion of a cox cable phone support associate I bought a new cable modem to take advantage of the premium internet I am paying for. This has not helped the issue at all and in fact has gotten worse. For reference I am directly connected to my router (brand new Linksys WRT 1900 ACS) via a cat 5e Ethernet cable. If I am on super late or during the morning (rarely) I do not see this problem. Sadly during the last six months it has been more like dial up than high speed internet, which is upseting since I pay for the premium level of internet which should get me 100mbs down, if this issue does not get resolved I will be forced to seek another internet provider. -John P.S. - Cox's forums do not support either Windows 10 or Chrome and so it will not let me insert the image. If support personel wish to see it I have both images and video to show the completely awful connection.2.2KViews0likes2CommentsInternet lag spikes- Hardwired and wifi.
Hello experts, I currently am experiencing a lot of ping related issues especially in regards to games. I've reset the router by both the reset button and sending signal. I've replaced all the connection wires and even the splitter, and turned off and on it without resetting. I also have done port forwarding and none of this seems to be working. Please see the examples below. All with only one PC connected. - Pinging google.com over 15 iterations excluding the packets for space conservation No games up: Ping statistics for 216.58.217.206: Packets: Sent = 15, Received = 15, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 19ms, Maximum = 23ms, Average = 21ms 1 Game up mid game: Ping statistics for 216.58.193.206: Packets: Sent = 15, Received = 15, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 286ms, Maximum = 344ms, Average = 314ms Any thoughts? Again this is wired connection however wireless acts similar. When connected to my hotspot I have no spikes so it leads me to believe its something to do with cox and or the modem.3.1KViews0likes4CommentsTremendous internet slow down when evening comes around
My internet seems to slow down tremendously when the evening comes. Ping can jump above 1k ms sometimes. I've run a tracert: Also an image of my modem signal levels: Normally the internet is at 50 Mbps down, however when the internet slows down I get roughly 5Mbps: I'm not sure if this is an internet congestion problem in my area, or a signal problem. I am also using wireless throughout the house.2.1KViews0likes1Commentbad routing server causing high latency
Ok so i was wondering why i had always had the minimum of 50 ping to any server i tested never below 50 i didn't really think much f it till riot games creator of the game League Of Legends made a post of more centralized north american servers they left an ip to ping expecting to be in the 30~50 range of ping i pinged the server only to get results of 73 ping from my location i noticed people who live in Miami and other southern parts of Florida showing there tracerts of around 45-50 ping using isp's such as Comcast and centrylink keep in mind they are moving the servers from Portland Oregon to Chicago with me living in the panhandle of Florida going from 90 avg ping to 73 isnt a big change for how big the mileage from Portland to Chicago is anyways i was at a neighbors house who has centrylink i was testing his internet noticing i was getting around a average of 6 ping to a server approximately 120 miles away and i tested at my house only to get the standard 50 ms ping so after looking through tracerts i believe this server dalsbprj01-ae1.0.rd.dl.cox.net is the problem with the routing witch is located in Atalanta i was wondering if there is anyway you guys can fix/ or me blocking routing to this server and i pretty much am sure its this server because pinging servers more west such as in Dallas i can get under 50 ms ping when im not being routed threw this server. Btw i know cox is currently in a deal with riot games so you can use there pop's but this has nothing to do with other servers i have tested and got same results edit also this server: ashbbprj02-ae1.0.rd.as.cox.net17KViews0likes39CommentsPacket loss
I have recently begun having problems with web pages loading slowly or not loading at all whether I am using wifi or using Ethernet. It is intermittent but it happens about 90% of the time.It is not tied to any specific page or pages as they could be fine now and a problem later. I have run a speed test and the download speed, upload speed and ping are all good on my laptops, tablet and phone. If I eliminate internet access to all of the devices except one the problem still occurs. I ran a ping test and it confirmed that the ping is good as well as the jitter. However, the packet loss is usually between 55% and 65%. Nothing has been changed in my system to cause this. I also notice that my internet drops out occasionally when using wifi. It didn't use to. I live in an apartment complex (senior complex, no kids online) and I seem to be the only one with problems. When the wifi drops out all modem light remain lit. I have run netstat, but I am a novice and do not understand the results! Does this sound like a modem problem? It IS pretty old - a docsis 2.0 - I have 5 mbps service so the 2.0 should be fine, it has been in the past. Incidentally the problems exist when I disable my McAfee as well. Thank you2.1KViews0likes1CommentNow that the FCC changed the definition of Broadband...
Now that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has changed the definition of broadband to be a minimum of 25 mbps download and 3 mbps upload speeds, will Cox's Essential Internet Package (what I have right now and only getting 5 mbps download and 1 mbps upload speeds) be changed to that minimum?2.8KViews0likes3CommentsLatency Issue with Modem/Router // Premier Tier Internet Package
This is my ping test between my PC and modem/router. I purchased the Netgear CG4500BD and I never had a problem with it before. However, after moving to a new apartment and upgrading my internet package from Preferred to Premier, I have this latency issue. Even after Cox Speed Test, I still have issue when I'm watching a live stream videos such as Netflix and such. Is there any fix to this? By the way, I'm hard wired from my PC to the modem/router with a Cat6 Ethernet cable. I'm not sure if that will affect by any chance. PLEASE, let me know what I can do! I don't know if it's my router or my internet speed!4.3KViews0likes10Commentsconnection optimizer
why does the connection optimizer you have only work on windows xp and internet explorer? do you actually still have customers who use windows xp? (that operating system is over a decade old at this point) or are you just trying to not offer a real connection optimization service. considering you are a tech company it makes no sense why you would intentionally offer services that are out of date. please fix this.3.4KViews0likes4Comments
