bad routing server causing high latency
Ok so i was wondering why i had always had the minimum of 50 ping to any server i tested never below 50 i didn't really think much f it till riot games creator of the game League Of Legends made a post of more centralized north american servers they left an ip to ping expecting to be in the 30~50 range of ping i pinged the server only to get results of 73 ping from my location i noticed people who live in Miami and other southern parts of Florida showing there tracerts of around 45-50 ping using isp's such as Comcast and centrylink keep in mind they are moving the servers from Portland Oregon to Chicago with me living in the panhandle of Florida going from 90 avg ping to 73 isnt a big change for how big the mileage from Portland to Chicago is anyways i was at a neighbors house who has centrylink i was testing his internet noticing i was getting around a average of 6 ping to a server approximately 120 miles away and i tested at my house only to get the standard 50 ms ping so after looking through tracerts i believe this server dalsbprj01-ae1.0.rd.dl.cox.net is the problem with the routing witch is located in Atalanta i was wondering if there is anyway you guys can fix/ or me blocking routing to this server and i pretty much am sure its this server because pinging servers more west such as in Dallas i can get under 50 ms ping when im not being routed threw this server. Btw i know cox is currently in a deal with riot games so you can use there pop's but this has nothing to do with other servers i have tested and got same results edit also this server: ashbbprj02-ae1.0.rd.as.cox.net17KViews0likes39Commentsupload packet loss 15-25% please help.
Ok so, i upgraded my services several months ago from preferred to premier. Upgrading to this tier requires a docsis 3 modem as you all know. First day i upgraded my speeds changed from 27/8 to 33/10 average. I was very disappointed. after 2 techs an several hours of phone calls i finally got in touch with someone to fix the issue. it was the "coding" i believe it was worded. Basically they hooked up my modem but didnt adjust the speed form the com center. Bam, i was getting great speed now. One problem, major packet loss. I figured it wasnt that big of an issues as i was getting better upload speeds than before and just wrote it off. Well after comparing voip and video to my parents 25/5 connection with no packet loss, its was a problem. I am a gamer and we spend a considerable amount of time using programs like skype to connect with my family across the US as well as my wife using for conference calls to conduct business. I spent over a decade dealing with internet issues as a teenager living at my parents an was the one who would call and have techs come out. I've never seen this much packet loss and after comparing i got on the phone and started trouble shooting with techs. i have had 3 techs come out for this issue. Things that have been done are running a new line that feeds into the house, one tech added an amp because my signals down where in the -8 and greater range causing some disconnect issues, the last tech to come out got me off the amp stating i didnt need it an that it could be causing the upload packet problem and he also changed splitters and fittings. No luck still. i have seen several of these issues resolved from different things, but all seem to be a long road and a headache. iam inquiring about eatels fiber optics as they are becoming available in my area but before i make a switch i want to give this a valiant effort as my wife loves the tv package we have with dvr that is considerably more money with eatel. Is there a expert team, or a set of procedures to fix this issue or am i just spinning my wheels? any one with a docsis 3 with premier or ultimate getting 0 or very little packet loss? any info at this point would be helpful.16KViews0likes13CommentsDisconnects, resets, latency spikes?
I've noticed for (at least) a few weeks now that packet latency occasionally spikes (against, say, cox DNS servers or linux.org). I also experience intermittent disconnects. Believing this may have been caused by my router or by my cable modem I upgraded to an SBG6850 last Sunday, retiring an old Linksys WRT router and a DOCSIS2. While I now get slightly higher up/down rates (average of 18 down 22 up instead of 18 down 5 up.) Unfortunately, I am still experiencing latency spikes, and I am still occasionally disconnected from the internet. I am a self-employed software engineer as such I work from home 90% of the time, so I routinely have RDP sessions open against AWS, to remote offices, machiines local to my network and VMs. Thus, when the internet here "hiccups" I notice, every day, I was really hoping to have solved this problem by upgrading to a modem rated for the service level I am paying for (I am a Premier Internet subscriber.) The last straw for me was today when the internet disconnected in the middle of a code push up to github, talk about horrible timing :( right? I don't feel that upgrading to Ultimate is going to solve my problem, so, what can I do to resolve this issue? As an aside, these "hiccups" also interrupt my tv and movie streaming, video game performance, bitcoin mining, etc which is why I pay for Premier service, I don't want to see "buffering 0%" every time I watch a movie :( If it's a matter of throwing more money at Cox just tell me where to go so I can be done with it. Otherwise, let me know what info I can give you to help resolve the issue. I really want a consistently stable experience, as it stands I have not experienced a single problem-free day in what feels like 5 weeks or more.9.2KViews0likes12CommentsService Appointment Charge of $60
Hi, I recently moved to San Diego, and without much of a choice, installed Cox in our apartment. The signal was terrible, dying every couple hours, and many times turning the modem on and off didn't change anything. I decided to hire the next level of Internet speed, hoping to be considered a consumer 'a little higher' in the food chain, and guess what? It didn't change. I called COX to ask them to fix it, after all, I hired a working internet service. They said someone was coming, and indeed, a technician came, said the signal was low, and put up a device to improve the dB (not a neat job, I had to rearrange the cables properly). A few days went by, and the problems continued. I started to learn to live with the fact that I needed to reset the modem and router every couple hours, which is certainly not what I have experience in both Denver and Chicago with Comcast. Parallel to that, I signed a VPN service, that helped the connection incredibly, but I can't explain why. I just received the Dec 10 bill here (Due Dec 30) and realized we got charged for $60 for the Service Appointment. My question is: FOR WHAT REASON? It is certainly shameful for a company to charge an extra that is almost a couple months of service for basically trying to fix the exact service it is not delivering. (Besides that, we have been having problems about the automatic payment, but will try to set it up one more time.) I would certainly like for this service fee to be cancelled before the Due date. Thank you. - Arthur7.4KViews0likes3CommentsProblem with traffic to Blizzard servers (World of Warcraft) via Cogentco
http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/1146.aspx Here is a link to a thread about an issue that occurred in January where many players were experiencing high latency on World of Warcraft servers mainly due to the Cogentco connection between Cox and AT&T. The issue disappeared awhile ago and now it is happening again where I am getting 100-300 MS on servers where I would usually be at around 20 MS. I'm not sure what was fixed last time in order to solve this problem but I would like some feedback on this issue. I would say the issue started about 3-4 days ago and based on this forum post: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/9793019207 many other Cox Digital Cable users in AZ are experiencing similar issues with high ping due to the Cogentco routing.6.1KViews0likes8CommentsPacket Loss During Peak Times with Ultimate Tier

Hello, everyone. I posted here awhile back, talking about a latency issue I had, but a few days after I posted, the problem fixed itself. Supposedly somewhere in the world, a bad router or switch was replaced and service went back to normal, which lasted about a couple weeks. I have this same problem again now, and initially I waited to see if it would go away on its own like it did last time, but it's taking much longer. I'm worried that the problem may not be getting investigated by whoever is responsible. Some background: - The "latency issue" I have is that my latency will spike to 800+ ms every ~10 seconds when communicating with any server, making online gaming and phone calling over the internet very frustrating. I've had weeks with good service, and weeks with bad service mixed with each other in recent months. - I'm living in Escambia County, Florida. - I'm running 5 computers in this apartment. All of them experience this latency issue. Some are on wireless connections (802.11n) and some are on Ethernet. - Before posting the first time about this problem, I changed my gateway out in case it was defective. This second gateway does not solve the problem. - Upon doing a tracert test with google.com, I often see latency spikes. Normal response times varied from 10-100 ms, but on 1 or 2 hops, the latency spikes to at least 500. The location of these problem hops appear in different places with each test. - Ping is usually reported to be around 55 ms on Speedtest.net, slightly higher than average, but this is the same number I get when service is normal. - Bandwidth is normal. I still get my promised 50 Mbps. (Big thanks to COX for the free increase from 25 Mbps!) Is there any known problem about this area with its service? Is there something I can to to fix this problem? Thank you, Shiromage4.4KViews0likes7CommentsLatency Issue with Modem/Router // Premier Tier Internet Package
This is my ping test between my PC and modem/router. I purchased the Netgear CG4500BD and I never had a problem with it before. However, after moving to a new apartment and upgrading my internet package from Preferred to Premier, I have this latency issue. Even after Cox Speed Test, I still have issue when I'm watching a live stream videos such as Netflix and such. Is there any fix to this? By the way, I'm hard wired from my PC to the modem/router with a Cat6 Ethernet cable. I'm not sure if that will affect by any chance. PLEASE, let me know what I can do! I don't know if it's my router or my internet speed!4.3KViews0likes10Comments
