Intermittent Connect. Drops and Lag.
So I've been having some connection issues since early April whenever I started the Cox HSI service. The connection intermittently drops out. Sometimes the modem restarts (I'm on my third modem). I believe the upstream is having problems because it seems to only happen whil either playing xbox, which requires sending information back and forth constantly, or doing something of a similiar nature on any other device such as uploading videos or other information on my computer or phone. My connection is going through the Cisco DPQ-3212 into an ASUS RT-N56U. The problem persists even while connected directly to the modem, xbox and computer. I have had 6 Techs come out so far, the next one is coming out this Sunday. All but one of the Techs said that there is nothing that they could do in regards to the connection drop out and advised that a maintenance team would have to come out and replace the line, which has still yet to be done. Is this the problem? Should the line be replaced and all be fine? Or is there another issue outlined somewhere? I'll upload some modem specs later on. If any other information is needed just let me know. Also, I have searched and searched for answers on forums including dslreports and can not find any resolve.11KViews0likes4CommentsExperiencing Lag during online gaming
Hi, I'm experiencing lag and stutter during online gaming. I've Cox Preferred plan and play game over wireless connection. I've tried restarting and rebooting modem several times but the issue still remains. I also tried playing game using the LAN connection but the issue persists. I've contacted customer support twice but they have only helped me by restarting the connection again and again. For debugging purposes, I ran Speedtests (www.speedtest.net) and Pingtests (www.pingtest.net), and i figured out speed fluctuations, at times I get 63.2 Mbps and other time I get 12.2 Mbps. Also, I get 9ms, 12ms and other time 223ms and 300+ pings. These figures are from tests that I ran back to back when I started facing issues during gameplay. Please look into this issue. I've Netgear C3700DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem router and I'm using 2.4 GHz connection for wireless connection. Thanks, Gaurav K.7.9KViews0likes12CommentsLag spikes
Hello, I've lived in Phoenix, AZ since August 2013, and also have had cox internet since then. I have the package that gives me about 30 mbps download and 10 mbps upload. For about a month now, I have been getting lag spikes. Initially, I thought it was just the game server, but then my friends on Skype told me that my voice was robotic or skipping as well. Is this an issue with the router/modem, the area that I am in, or the wiring outside?6.3KViews0likes13CommentsPacket Loss During Peak Times with Ultimate Tier

I have been a Cox customer for about 2 weeks (since moving to Henderson). Since then, World of Warcraft is unplayable for me. I cannot go 15 consecutive minutes without a disconnect or a lag spike of more than 5-15 seconds. Is anyone else having problems with WoW? It's not my computer--WoW still works perfectly fine with no issues when I drive back to Glendale, CA and use my brother's ISP, nor does it have disconnect or lag issues using my Mom's old DSL connection. It's only here in Henderson, using Cox. For example (and this is not an extreme case, but about the average experience for me): This evening, Tuesday August 13, from 9:00 pm-9:40 pm, I disconnected 4 times from WoW. I also had 4 bouts of lag/latency that had me running in place onscreen for more than 10 seconds each time. And it doesn't matter what time of day I try to play. Morning, mid-day, evenings, weekdays or weekends, it's all the same. I am a "Preferred" bundle customer, which is up to 25mbps download speeds. Should I pay extra and upgrade to 50 mbps? I wouldn't mind doing so, but the product I'm paying for now is so horrendous, I don't trust that paying extra would solve anything. Especially since my old DSL connection never had any problems like the ones I've experienced since the cable guy installed my internet and router and I plugged in two weeks ago. Everything else I do online, I can do from my smartphone--so if I can't play online, then there really is no reason to keep paying for Cox internet.Solved5.4KViews0likes5Comments20%+ packet loss for hours sporadically throughout the day (unusable)
Hello, At the beginning of the month (the 3rd), I moved into a brand new apartment complex that is fiber ready. They also installed a brand new Cox modem. I figured that this meant I wouldn't have any issues. I was very wrong. Since moving in, I have made many calls to Cox support and even had 2 techs out (a 3rd scheduled for tomorrow) and nothing has improved whatsoever. I work from home and I also do a lot of online gaming and this packet loss makes everything impossible to do (including loading websites). I have tried everything on my end that I can do, including power cycling the modem, rebooting my computer, changing the ethernet cables, turned off Wireless, turned off Firewalls. The two previous techs replaced the wiring outside hoping that will fix it, but nothing has worked. The packet loss I'm experiencing is making my TCP connections completely unusable, while my UDP connections still work somewhat. My computer is plugged directly into the modem. When the internet is working, it's great and downloads very fast, but when it's having issues, it spikes to upwards of 35-40% packet loss. The issue usually occurs from around 2AM-8AM, but the issue often happens sporadically throughout the day (as you can see from my Pingplotter of the last 48 hours below...) and thus far, no tech has been able to see the problem happening live. I'm beyond frustrated at this point and I just don't know what to do anymore. Any help would be appreciated. I've provided various tests below that might offer some insight into the issues.4.8KViews0likes9CommentsGaming Lag
Hello, i am having a problem in which every time I connect to a game of League of Legends it lags to an unplayable level. Once I connect, if I then power cycle my modem it fixes it for the most part (some packet loss but okay). I know it is not the game servers as I was in CO for the past two months and never had this issue. In March I was having a similar issue and when I called Cox said not their fault, get a new modem/router. I did and problem was actually fixed until I went to CO in May. Once I returned, same issue. Issue increases dramatically at 5pm. Pretty sure that cox is throttling the service to Riot servers. All other services I.e Netflix, YouTube work fine.4.6KViews0likes10CommentsLatency Spikes
Hello, everyone. I posted here awhile back, talking about a latency issue I had, but a few days after I posted, the problem fixed itself. Supposedly somewhere in the world, a bad router or switch was replaced and service went back to normal, which lasted about a couple weeks. I have this same problem again now, and initially I waited to see if it would go away on its own like it did last time, but it's taking much longer. I'm worried that the problem may not be getting investigated by whoever is responsible. Some background: - The "latency issue" I have is that my latency will spike to 800+ ms every ~10 seconds when communicating with any server, making online gaming and phone calling over the internet very frustrating. I've had weeks with good service, and weeks with bad service mixed with each other in recent months. - I'm living in Escambia County, Florida. - I'm running 5 computers in this apartment. All of them experience this latency issue. Some are on wireless connections (802.11n) and some are on Ethernet. - Before posting the first time about this problem, I changed my gateway out in case it was defective. This second gateway does not solve the problem. - Upon doing a tracert test with google.com, I often see latency spikes. Normal response times varied from 10-100 ms, but on 1 or 2 hops, the latency spikes to at least 500. The location of these problem hops appear in different places with each test. - Ping is usually reported to be around 55 ms on Speedtest.net, slightly higher than average, but this is the same number I get when service is normal. - Bandwidth is normal. I still get my promised 50 Mbps. (Big thanks to COX for the free increase from 25 Mbps!) Is there any known problem about this area with its service? Is there something I can to to fix this problem? Thank you, Shiromage4.4KViews0likes7CommentsPacket loss from Tustin1.Level3.net plz open a ticket with level3
I have new service from COX and my speed is otherwise fine, but when I log into World of Warcraft I will have 91 lat [good], 76ms [my connection to them Good] 2253ms [VERY BAD, data loss] I looked on a few forums and they suggested a Tracer, the results suggest packet loss from level3.net, this is not a COX node, so the only thing I can do is request that COX puts in a request to level3.net and have them fix their node. This is an ongoing issue that has never been resolved. Every service person in the last 5 years have made the observation that the service was slow in this area. Can we say DUH! ? Even after making this observation nothing has been done to rectify the situation. Here are the stats. Standard internet connection Surfboard SB6180 Modem. All empirical data listed is thru a Compaq Presario XP system which is hardwired to said modem. (I have had this same system connected to a competitors DSL line and have seen speeds over 10 times what I experience with Cox) (Also have 2 newer Win7 laptops connected via Netgear WPN824 V2 Wireless which do not see any improvement in the aforementioned numbers.) Using http://www.speedtest.net: Download speed is almost never over 1mbps. The max I have seen is 1.4mbps Upload speed is ~0.5mbps Ping rate is rarely less than 0.4 My internet connection drops at least once a day: date time 10mar2014 0534 11mar2014 2113 12mar2014 0527 13mar2014 unknown 15mar2014 1225 15/16mar2014 unknown 16mar2014 between 0645 and 1352 17mar2014 1739 In addition i have experienced download failures from trusted sites: 14mar2014 0234 18mar2104 1434 19mar2014 0234 In addition, for the past 2 to 3 days the lag on some sites (facebook.com/Kixeye.com, etc) has been unbearable. The aforementioned instances have happened just in the last week. As previously stated this is an ongoing issue and has been happening for over 5 years. This is what I'm supposed to be receiving, per my account listing on Cox's own web site. "Internet speeds faster than DSL to support all of your wireless devices FREE PowerBoost when you have the need for more speed FREE Online Cloud Storage - access and share your photos, videos and files from anywhere, anytime Up to 10 email addresses with plenty of space to send large files Entertainment features like Music Choice Broadband and Nick Jr. Boost Cox Security Suite Plus Powered By McAfee®" In addition a recent ad lists "speeds of up to 7mbps". I've come here as a last ditch effort. I have seen Cox techies on here (COXVegas for one) that were able to fix issues others could not. That is what I'd hope to see.2.3KViews0likes1Comment
